NEET PG: KEA announces stray vacancy round extended online seat allotment for vacant 783 seats
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has issued a notification regarding the extended Stray Vacancy Round for admission to PG Medical courses for the 2025 session.
The decision comes following directions from the Hon’ble High Court in Writ Petition No. 2386/2026. The authority has also announced a special process to fill the 783 postgraduate medical seats that remain vacant after the Stray Vacancy Round.
According to the notification, the details of 783 PG Medical seats remaining unfilled after the Stray Vacancy Round have been published on the website. As per the instructions issued by the Government on 10-03-2026 as per NMC circular dated 24-07-2023, candidates interested in selecting the unfilled PG Medical seats published on the KEA Website may submit the full fee of the seat they are taking up through DD or Cheque (obtained in the name of Executive Director, KEA, payable at Bangalore) in person at KEA, Malleswaram, Bengaluru along with all the necessary original documents on 11-03-2026 from 10.30 am to 3.00 pm.
Only those candidates who submit the DD of full fee and original documents will be allowed to enter the options through online on 11-03-2026 from 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm and the result will be announced after 7.00 pm on 11-03-2026 and candidate should take admission in the allotted college by 12-03-2026 at 5.30 PM. (Deemed Admission), the notice read.
Only those candidates who have qualified in NEET PG 2025 but have not been allotted any PG Medical seat in any round by KEA are eligible for selection of 783 PG Medical seats remaining unallotted. Candidates who have joined the college allotted in the three rounds of seat allotment through MCC / Deemed University / or any institution / Boards and candidates who have been allotted seats in the Stray Vacancy round by MCC are not eligible.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that After the completion of postgraduate medical admission counselling conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), 783 seats out of the 4,773 available PG medical seats in Karnataka remained vacant.
This year, nearly 14,400 candidates registered for the counselling, and over 10,000 students filled their choices for PG medical courses through KEA, as per TOI media report.
According to experts, the large number of vacant seats is mainly due to a sharp increase in seat numbers - 967 seats have been added in a single year, long counselling cycles, and high fees for management quota seats in private colleges.
Most of these seats are under management quota with annual fees ranging from Rs 25,000 for an anatomy seat to Rs 1.3 crore for a dermatology seat in private colleges, which makes it unaffordable for many doctors.
