NTA decides to Allow Medical Specialists at NEET exam centres in Haryana

Gurgaon: With the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled to be held only a couple of days later on May 7, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to allow a medical specialist inside the NEET  exam centres.

In this regard, the regional coordinator of NTA Haryana, Rupa Chakraborty on Tuesday clarified that this year, examinations will pay special attention to the requirements of persons with disabilities. 

Such candidates will be given an extra hour for completing their examinations and those unwilling to take extra time will have to submit a written declaration clarifying their decision.

Apart from this, this year candidates will get an extra 20 minutes this year for appearing in the exam. This year, the NEET exam time slot has been decided from 2 pm to 5.20 pm. It is mandatory for the candidates to report at the exam centre at 1.30 pm at the latest.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, around 11,000 PwD candidates will appear for the exam in Gurgaon in around 24 PwD-accessible exam cenres. Among these, 864 candidates have been accommodated at Royal Public School in Wazirpur while another 148 candidates have been accommodated at Rotary Public School in Sector 22. CCTV cameras have been arranged at all the centres including one camera in each of the rooms, one at the entrance and exit and one in the strong room.

The daily adds that specially-abled candidates will have availability of scribes on standby corresponding to the number of candidates. Besides, they will also be allotted seats on the lower most floor at the centre.

Apart from paying special attention to PwD candidates, this year NTA is also focusing on gender sensitivity as the Supreme Court is considering the cases of allowing same-sex marriage.

The Agency is giving students permission to choose the booth they would want to get frisked outside the exam hall and guards are also being deputed in make sure that the candidates do not get inappropriately frisked at the centre, informed the regional coordinator of NTA Haryana, Rupa Chakraborty.

Officials informed the daily that as many as one observer and deputy observed would be required for more than 360 candidates appearing for the exam. Further, the directions specify that the videographers at the centre will not be allowed to leave the centres before the exam is over.
