5 MBBS medicos suspended for 3 months for ragging at lucknow medical college

Following a probe by a four-member committee of the college, five among these six students have been suspended from the college for a period of three months. However, after one of the accused students tried committing suicide, he has been suspended for a period of 15 days with a direction to send him home to relax considering his mental health condition.

The entire 2019 batch students have been strictly warned by the college administration not to get involved in any kind of ragging incident in future.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the incident allegedly took place on July 24 when some of the 2019 batch MBBS students had called a 2020 batch girl student. Upon calling her to the lecture hall of the academic block, the seniors asked the student to sing a song. However, when the girl couldn't qualify as per the expectations of the seniors, the 2019 batch students allegedly started misbehaving. Meanwhile, other students of the 2020 batch came to the rescue of their friend but the seniors allegedly intimidated all of them.

Later, the students lodged a complaint in the ragging cell of the medical college. In fact, the girl student filed a separate complaint altogether and named the six seniors belonging to the 2019 batch.

The daily adds that one of the six students allegedly tried ending his life on Monday after being named in the complaint.

However, finding the charges brought against the 2019 batch students to be true, the four-member committee headed by dean Prof Nuzhat Husain took action against them and suspended them on Tuesday.

The other members of the committee included CMS Dr Rajan Bhatnagar and Dr. Navbeer Singh of the anatomy department.

RMLIMS spokesperson Prof Srikesh Singh has informed TOI that after the committee found the charges to be true, it suspended the five students for three months. The sixth student, who allegedly attempted suicide has been suspended for 15 days. Besides, the authorities have ordered a probe to confirm if the student actually attempted suicide and if yes what was the exact cause of his depression.

While commenting on the matter, Dr. Shrikesh Singh told Hindustan Times, "After the report of the inquiry committee, five senior medical students have been suspended from the institute. The hospital administration has banned any sort of students gathering in the form of cultural festival or function on the premises of the institute."
