6 MBBS interns of GMC Nagpur suspended for Ragging

Nagpur: The Government Medical College in Nagpur has suspended 6 MBBS interns in an alleged case of ragging. the college administration received the complaint from the student and asked the culprits to vacate the hostel and suspended their internship.

Informing PTI about the incident, an official stated, "The action was taken after the junior student, who is in the first year of the MBBS course at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) in Nagpur in Maharashtra, sent a video of the alleged ragging to the Central Anti-Ragging Committee."

The suspended students were undergoing MBBS internships. The alleged ragging took place six months ago. The complainant secretly shot a video of the incident, the college official further informed.

The victim lodged a formal complaint a couple of months ago. Following the internal report, the college lodged a formal complaint with the local police and asked them to initiate action against the interns according to existing laws after receiving the video along with the student's complaint.

After an internal investigation, the committee submitted its report to the college administration on Tuesday. 

"After getting the report of the committee on Tuesday, the college authorities initiated the action on Wednesday, accordingly,"College Dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye informed HT.

College Dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye immediately issued orders suspending internship of the students and also asked them to vacate the hostel. 

"We have already issued orders against the suspended interns to vacate the college hostels immediately," he added and reiterated that the college has zero tolerance for ragging.

The anti-ragging committee of the college have also lodged a complaint with Ajni police station but no First Information Report has been registered yet, a police official said.

"After procuring the anti-ragging committee's report, we will initiate appropriate action against the interns as soon as we can. We will also detain the interns for interrogation and further investigation," the police officer further added.

The police have sought more information from the college authorities, he said. 

The state medical education department has also asked the college authorities to submit a report on the incident, an official said.
