New Delhi: The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has sought responses from Pune-based DY Patil Medical College on the allegations of fake patient files, misuse of Government scheme funds, and unethical admission practices, including no reservation for economically weaker sections.

Writing to the Dean/Principal of DY Patil Medical College, the PG Board of NMC has asked the college to furnish the requisite information within 7 days.

NMC's action comes after Dr. Divyansh Dwivedi had raised several allegations against the medical college, including the use of fake patient files. Referring to this, NMC mentioned in the letter, "There are approximately 1000 fake MRD files are maintained daily.  It is requested to provide CCTV Footage of the MRD files of the admission day and their details."

The complainant also alleged that there was a misuse of Government Scheme funds, and also claimed that the college does not provide reservations for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

"There is 50% of the government scheme package amount is allegedly misappropriated by the hospital," NMC mentioned in the letter, further adding, "There are not 10% of beds are reserved for EWS patients as per rule."

Highlighting another allegation regarding unethical admission practices, NMC PG Board mentioned in the letter addressed to the medical college Dean, "The SICU collects an intial deposit of Rs.25, 000/- from patients under the pretext of admission, even when such patients are not admitted eventually."

"You are therefore requested to furnish requisite information within 7 days to enable to send a suitable reply to him," the Commission added in the letter dated 12.06.2025.

This is not the first time that the DY Patil Medical College has come under the NMC scanner. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that after receiving numerous complaints/grievances from students alleging that D Y Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Centre was collecting MBBS fees for 5 years instead of 4.5 years, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of NMC asked the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Maharashtra to investigate the matter and take proper action, if required. DME Maharashtra had been directed to clarify if any medical college in Maharashtra is charging full fees for the 5th year instead of charging only for 4.5 years, the duration of the MBBS course.

In the letter dated 01.05.2025, addressed to the DME, NMC had also clarified that these complaints received from the students shall be reviewed during the approval process for annual renewal of the concerned medical college for the Academic Year 2025-2026. However, the Commission, at the same time, had clarified that while it issues the required regulations or guidelines, the responsibility of implementation was of the concerned institute and the State authorities.

Recently, NMC asked the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Maharashtra, to expedite its investigations into these allegations and send a compliance report immediately to the Commission for taking necessary action.

The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) also asked for an explanation from the DY Patil Medical College regarding the allegations that the dean of the institute is practising without a valid State Medical Council license.
