Lucknow: Even though instances of ragging at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) are being reported, the  MBBS students are yet to file any complaint in this regard due to their fear of facing consequences.

Dainik Jagran adds that several students have complained of the strict instructions given by the seniors and due to this, the first year medicos are being forced to cut their hair short, wear loose pants and walk with their heads bowed.

However, the college administration has denied any such instances and has informed that the authorities have not received any complaints in this regard.

On the other hand, reportedly amount of fear of facing humiliation from the seniors is so high among the new students that they have not approached the Anti-Ragging Cell till now.

As per the rules of RMLIMS, the senior and junior students stay at separate hostels. While junior students are kept in the hostel inside the campus, the seniors stay in the Shaheed Path Hostel of the medical college.

Despite such attempts of keeping the juniors separate, the instances of ragging are being reported, adds Dainik Jagran. The senior students have threatened to humiliate the juniors if they do not keep their hair short, do not follow the instructions of not growing beard or wearing loose and double plate pants and fail to walk with their heads down.

Apart from this, the first year students have reportedly been asked to come to the mess for dinner in their uniforms. While commenting on the matter, Dr. Sujit Rai, Additional Medical Superintendent of RMLIMS told Jagran, "No complaint of ragging has been received. Ragging is not possible in the hostel, as there are separate hostels for senior and junior students. If ragging is taking place in the mess or other places, then information will be taken from the Proctor and Warden. Action will be taken against ragging students."

Instances of ragging are not new at RMLIMS. Last year also Medical Dialogues had reported about such incidents where following complaints of ragging, the college authorities had suspended five students from the institute for a period of three months. At that time, the administration had strictly warned the entire 2019 batch of the medical college not to get involved in any kind of ragging incident in future.
