Speaking on the occasion Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, said, "you are highly fortunate to pass out from one of the prestigious Institutions for Medical education in India, the Apollo Medical College. You start with a great advantage but let me remind you that education is like a dress rehearsal for what happens in your life, you have to continuously get educated throughout your life. I finished 43 years of practice and to me even now every day I learn from my patients, from my students, I learn from the internet and other sources. I continue to learn; it is very important as you go out into the world you face several challenges and constant learning helps."
"It is said, success leads to happiness, but it is important to realize that happiness leads to success, when you are contended and happy you are successful. Success is not all about money, power, but it is happiness in yourself, you achieved what you wanted today. As you go ahead there are going to be several hurdles, remember failures are the stepping stones to success. Keep doing whatever you want and do it with passion. Everybody advises you to work hard, but my message to you is to work smart, when you work smart, hard work becomes enjoyable," he said
"I work smart because I enjoy listening to my patients’ stories, enjoy watching the endoscopy monitor as I do the procedures, I enjoy reading medical research as it comes out, I enjoy discussing the latest research project. If you do whatever you do with passion, hard work becomes enjoyable. World is changing rapidly, if you remain where you are, you will remain backward. Medicine is an uncertain Science, there are lot of problems you are not sure of, Biology is never perfect unlike Physics or Chemistry, therefore you will come across complications and you need to deal with them all. Medicine is a combination of Science, Art and empathy, you become a perfect doctor when you combine all these three. All of you are going to be good doctors, but we want you to be great doctors, to become a great doctor from good doctor, you need to master the art of communication, be it with the patients, attendants, colleagues, media etc. Communication is not taught in schools; it is essential that you learn it to become a great doctor. It was my father’s advice that I should stop doing things which benefit me alone and do more for the benefit of the society, that day changed my perspective to life and started doing things which I didn’t do before of building institutions, helping poor etc." he further said.
"When I passed out of Medicine, one of my icons was Dr Prathap C. Reddy, I recommend all of you read his autobiography, ‘The Healer’, he influenced me a lot on how an individual could build an institution. He came back from US, leaving behind his lucrative practice in Cardiology there, with an ambition to build world class centers of healthcare in our country, he transformed healthcare in India, he single handedly did that, and his example is followed in many countries. Every medical institution builder including me look up to him, all of us got the idea of building institutions. He too passed out as a graduate of Medicine like you, but see what he achieved, you should too dream and think big. So don’t be just Doctors be great doctors who can transform the society. My advice to you all is, Dream Big, Work Hard, but still be most Humble, humility is the most important character for a good doctor," he added.
Dr Sangita Reddy said," Dr. Nageshwar Reddy who is your role model... has distinguished himself with that tremendous ability of being a great clinician and he is world renowned in it, he is a great administrator, a great researcher and above all a great human being, he has 360-degrees greatness in himself. As the 2018 Batch, I need to specially acknowledge you, because you were our first batch who went into practice on rotations in the hospital during Covid, you were the first Hybrid batch, you taught us how to teach from the class room as well as remotely, you went and met patients during Covid, in all that you have already been exposed to the challenges that this world is going to place before you. What you learnt in this time in college is going to remain relevant, but the realm of what you will use in the transformed world is going to be many times more powerful. Therefore one powerful thing you need to imbibe is being a lifelong learner, because the world is changing so rapidly and the tools in your hand are going to be transformational, you are the people who are going to dream of a world without cancer, can create healthy knees and may be no one will be doing joint replacements, develop a science of curing while the cells begin to degenerate and 100 other things which can happen, because of AI, because of the combination of three powerful ‘B’s of Biology, when the gene was deciphered, Bandwidth, to heal the world in any corner and be a global doctor and Bytes, because the computing capacity of the world is continuing to enhance, as the chips are becoming more and more powerful, this capacity is enhancing the capacity of diagnostic gadgets to give better outcomes, like we could see into the human body like never before."
"These 3 Bs and have the capacity to give new cures. Realize the reason why you became a doctor, it is to heal someone, to be that humane person. Most importantly I also think that you are a proud citizen of this country, and as this country is on the verge of a huge development, Vikshit Bharat will not be a dream, but a reality that you will live out, you will shape the new world of India, the world of 2047, you will shape that world. Be one of those youth who transforms our country, give the country the power its capable of, so that your parents, teachers and everyone else who made a difference in your life are proud of you and you are proud of yourself." she added.
