Bijnor: Following a reported ragging incident at Mahatma Vidur Autonomous State Medical College, the college administration has stepped up monitoring on campus and in the hostel to prevent further incidents.

Parents of both the students and the medicos accused of ragging were summoned to the college, while the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) has also started an inquiry into the matter.

Several parents visited the medical college on Friday to seek information about the incident. Members of the LIU team also reached the institution and questioned those concerned.

As part of the preventive measures, the college administration has separated the routes used by junior and senior students to minimise unnecessary interaction between them. Junior students have also been instructed not to respond if senior students call them, as per Amarujala report.

The administration has deployed three wardens to keep a close watch on hostel activities and ensure the safety of junior students. The wardens will visit the hostel at different times to interact with students and check whether they are facing any problems. During counselling sessions, junior students were also advised to approach the wardens if they faced any difficulty. They were further told to report the matter to the Principal if their complaints remained unresolved.

The incident came to light after a ragging and harassment complaint of junior students by 11 senior students was submitted to the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the college administration has launched an inquiry in connection to the matter.

The complaint was filed by the father of a junior student, who accused 11 students from the 2024 and 2025 batches of harassing juniors in the college hostel.

One of the reported allegations was that a junior student was forced by senior students to shave his head in the name of ragging. However, the college administration has denied the claim, stating that the student concerned told officials that he had shaved his head for a religious ceremony at his home.

On this, Assistant Professor Dr Amardeep Singh told Newswatch India that the complaint received from the student's family did not specifically mention the head-shaving incident. Dr Singh stated that the administration took the complaint seriously and initiated an investigation. He added that no incident of senior students forcing juniors to shave their heads in the name of ragging had been reported to the college.
