Ragging

Gorakhpur: A ragging allegation has surfaced at BRD Medical College after an anonymous complaint to the National Medical Commission (NMC) accused around 15 senior MBBS students of harassing first-year students inside the college hostel.

Acting on the complaint, the Apex Medical Commission has directed the college administration to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those found responsible.

The complaint, which was also forwarded to the University Grants Commission (UGC), named students from the 2022, 2023 and 2024 batches. It was mentioned that first-year MBBS students in the 2025 batch have been facing regular ragging.

According to the complaint, as per The Hindustan media report, the senior students frequently enter the hostel and force juniors to endure abusive language, verbal insults, sexually explicit conversations, and physically strenuous postures for prolonged periods.

After receiving the complaint, the college administration convened a meeting of its Anti-Ragging Committee on Tuesday to discuss the allegations and begin the inquiry process.

Principal Dr Ram Kumar Jaiswal chaired the meeting, which was attended by faculty members, including Dr Sunil Arya, Dr Pawan Pradhan, Dr Bindu Singh, Dr Manoj Yadav and Dr Rajkumar Yadav.

The administration stated that the students' complaint, along with the NMC’s communication, was placed before the committee. Following the meeting, the college administration initiated the inquiry process.

Sources said that the NMC sent its communication to the college on May 23 and sought strict action in the matter. The complaint reportedly mentions that six of the accused senior students had earlier faced ragging-related allegations involving members of the same junior batch.
