Establishment of 4 new medical colleges to double up MBBS seats in Punjab
Phagwara: Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister O P Soni on Tuesday said that the state government has already sanctioned the first installment of financial grants for 4 new medical colleges in the state which will enhance the MBBS seats upto 1500 from existing 700.
The new medical colleges would witnessed the start of work soon at Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Mohali and Pathankot.

Talking to media persons at village Virk near Phagwara after inaugurating the new Gee Bee institute of nursing and home sciences, the Minister said that a detailed project report has been submitted to the union Government in this regard besides that Punjab Government has also released Rs 40 crore each for the medical colleges of Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala during the budget 2021-22.
The medical college at Kapurthala dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji would cost Rs 325 crore. In addition to the 300-bed hospital, the medical college will also have a hostel, education college, residential complex, multi-storey parking etc.
The Central Medical Commission has approved the recruitment of faculty and professors in the medical college, with which the classes of the medical college will start soon.
Hailing the role of doctors and para medical staff in fight against Covid-19, Mr Soni said that these kind of nursing colleges will give a big push to the medical education in the rural area as the nursing places an important role in providing treatment to the people.
