Vijaywada: In a significant milestone for medical education and healthcare in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister YS. Jagan Mohan Reddy personally inaugurated one new medical government college in Vizianagaram and remotely inaugurated four others in Machilipatanam, Nandyala, Eluru, and Rajamundry on Friday. This accomplishment marks a historic moment in the state's pursuit of expanding healthcare infrastructure.

The inauguration of these five medical colleges, out of the 17 recently established government medical colleges, represents a major breakthrough in the realm of medical education. The event was a culmination of nearly a century of planning and preparation, signifying the government's commitment to improving healthcare services in the state.

Subsequent to the inauguration event, Chief Minister Reddy conducted an inspection of a photo exhibition organized at the medical college. During this visit, government officials provided him with an in-depth overview of the recently opened medical colleges, adds ANI.

According to a report by The New Indian Express , Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited has successfully completed the construction of three medical colleges: Rajahmundry Medical College, Eluru Medical College, and Machilipatnam Medical College. These colleges boast spacious classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, well-equipped libraries, auditoriums, accommodation facilities, and dedicated teaching staff. Each college has the capacity to admit 150 students.

In the last hundred years, the previous government managed to set up only 11 medical colleges in the southern state, with the inaugural one being King George Hospital in Vizag, founded in 1923. These freshly established colleges are on the brink of bringing about a significant transformation in the state's healthcare and medical education landscape, especially in rural areas.

Besides the three newly established medical colleges, MEIL is actively advancing its efforts to enhance the infrastructure for medical education and healthcare in Piduguralla, Bapatla, Markapuram, Madanaapalli, Anantapuram, Penugonda, Tirupati, Amalapuram, and Palakollu. These institutions are poised to play a transformative role in shaping the healthcare landscape of these regions.

Rajahmundry Medical College spans a sprawling 3.37-acre campus, featuring a comprehensive layout of six distinct blocks. These encompass the medical college building, accommodations tailored for both students and staff members, and a dedicated nursing college. In addition to the core blocks, ongoing construction efforts involve the creation of essential facilities, including laboratories, library spaces, lecture halls, a specialized biomedical waste disposal area, and provisions for kitchen and canteen services. The cumulative constructed area covers an expansive 1,130,250 square feet.

Machilipatnam Medical College, strategically situated in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, stands as an impressive project sprawling across 64.38 acres. This comprehensive establishment comprises essential components like the Inpatient Department (IPD), Outpatient Department (OPD), diagnostic block, medical college, and various other vital facilities. To support the construction process, a colossal water storage tank with a capacity of 1.15 crore liters was created, utilizing geomembrane sheets to store non-saline water. The daily construction activities at this site demand approximately 50,000 liters of water, which are efficiently transported by three tankers, each with a capacity of 4,000 liters, making ten trips daily. The construction of the facility was executed in seven distinct blocks.

Eluru Medical College, strategically positioned a mere 35 kilometers away from Vizayawada airport, assumes great significance as it takes root in the heart of the city, fulfilling a cherished dream held by the people of Eluru for the past half-century. Under the guidance of MEIL, this monumental project encompasses the establishment of a medical college, a 24/7 acute care block, and the expansion of existing structures, including hostels, staff quarters, dharamshalas, canteens, and more, all sprawling across an impressive 1,127,230 square feet. It is worth noting that construction work on five critical blocks has already been successfully concluded.
