The incident occurred on Monday following an argument over food orders in the JEEViKA-run kitchen inside the hospital campus. According to a worker in Jeevika Didi’s kitchen, the dispute started when some medical students demanded food items like yoghurt and omelettes. When the food was prepared, the students reportedly refused to accept part of the order, which led to a heated argument. During the argument, the students reportedly abused and insulted Jeevika didis.

JEEViKA Didis are women from self-help groups (SHGs) formed under the JEEViKA scheme. They work mainly in rural Bihar to support women’s financial independence and social empowerment.
It was claimed that the situation escalated when around 50 to 60 junior doctors entered the kitchen and attacked the JEEViKA Didis, resulting in injuries to six women. Following the incident, the kitchen was temporarily shut down as the workers demanded strict action.
Based on the complaint submitted to the district programme manager (DPM) office, a meeting was held at the GMCH principal’s office. After reviewing the matter, the authorities suspended four students.
Speaking to TOI, Hospital superintendent Dr Sudha Bharti said, "A quarrel broke out between the medical students and Jeevika didis over food in the kitchen, leading to their assault. After the incident, the Jeevika didis lodged a complaint with the district programme manager (DPM) office. Following this, a meeting was held at the GMCH principal’s office, where it was decided to take action against the accused. Later, four students were suspended and ordered to vacate the hostel."
