Patna: Taking note of ragging allegations against three MBBS students from the 2024 batch, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna has suspended them for three months.

According to an order issued by the Principal's office, the suspended students will not be allowed to attend classes or use the institute's educational facilities during the suspension period.

Along with this, the institute directed the three students to vacate their allotted hostel rooms. They will not be allowed to stay on the institute's campus during the three-month suspension.

Further, the students’ case will be placed before the Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) after the three-month suspension period. The committee will examine the matter and decide on further action based on the report.

News 18 has reported that the institute administration has taken this step, considering the ragging complaint a serious disciplinary matter.

Medical Dialogues had reported that Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, suspended nine second-year MBBS students for two weeks and imposed fines ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 after receiving a complaint. The institute's Anti-Ragging Committee took action after its investigation reportedly found that the senior students had repeatedly harassed and mentally troubled the first-year student.

In the complaint, he alleged that he and other first-year MBBS students were called to a senior's postgraduate (PG) room near Bhota Chowk. They were allegedly instructed to keep their eyes lowered and address the senior as "Doctor Sahib" whenever they met him. The juniors were also given a specific format for introducing themselves.
