Puducherry: Through a recent notice, the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has announced the reopening of all the outdoor grounds from 01 July, 2021.

It has been decided by the Competent Authority to reopen all the outdoor grounds from 01/07/2021 with the following COVID-19 precautionary measures:
1. The following COVID-19 protocol is to be followed by all ground users.

(a) All should wear face mask properly while using the ground.
(b) Physical distance of 3 feet is compulsory.
(c) No group activities to be allowed inside the ground.
(d) Do not touch yours Eyes, Nose and Mouth if your hands are not clean.
(e) Please do not enter the ground if you have common cold, fever, dry cough, runny nose or breathing difficulty.
(f) All users are advised not to bring any eatables inside the ground.
2. If the above protocols are found to be breached, the outdoor grounds will be shut down immediately.
3. Faculty/ Residents/Staff/Students must produce their identity card to the concerned security before entering the ground. No outsiders will be allowed to enter the grounds.
4. The Ground timings will be strictly followed, beyond this grounds will be locked.
Morning: 6 AM to 9 AM
Evening: 5 PM to 7 PM

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) can trace its origins to the 'Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry' established by the French Government in 1823. In 1956 foundation for new medical college was laid and in 1964, hospital was inaugurated. JIPMER became an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2008. It is an institution established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health. JIPMER spreads over 192 acres. The institution houses one administrative block, one academic centre, one nursing college, seven hospital blocks, seven accessory services buildings and four residential complexes. 12 broad types of medical, nursing and allied health science courses covering all disciplines in healthcare from basic to super speciality training are conducted.

JIPMER is witnessing expansion in the form of new campuses like JIPMER Karaikkal, JIPMER outreach centre at Yanam apart from the soon to be commissioned screening OPD block and superspeciality extention block. Conceptual plans for Puducherry second campus for Institute of organ transplantation and Institute of advanced trauma and rehabilitation were initiated during this period.
