Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has announced the conduction 12th online workshop on Basic Epidemiology.

The applicants need to apply via this link: https://forms.gle/G4F6pwvfY8ZBZtr87. The last date to apply is 30th September 2022 till 3:00 pm. The workshop will be conducted from 10th October 2022 till 14th October 2022 and organized by the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, JIPMER, Puducherry – 6. The workshop will be conducted between 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The applicants will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 2000. The account detail for fee payment is enclosed in the notice below.

Only the applicants who complete the payment and share their transaction IDs in the Google form will be registered for the workshop. A digital certificate will be provided after the completion of the workshop. Only limited participants will be allowed on a first come first serve basis.

The applicants note that they should have laptops with Windows (version XP and above) for attending with workshop.

Eligibility criteria – Faculty, postgraduate students, PhD scholars in medical colleges & research institutes, and other health care professionals interested in epidemiology.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to –

1. Apply the basic principles of epidemiology in planning and conducting research.

2. Interpret and evaluate the research published in scientific journals.

3. Perform the basic statistical tests using SPSS.

The department of Preventive and Social Medicine, JIPMER is committed to academic excellence and inculcating the philosophy of medical research among health professionals. One of the goals of the department is to improve the health of the community by sharing and imparting knowledge and expertise in Epidemiology. This workshop spans over five days, covering study designs and statistical tests along with SPSS demonstration.

1. Inferential statistics – p value and confidence interval

2. Inferential statistics - Choice of statistical tests

3. SPSS – Parametric tests (Demo)

13th October 2022 –

1. Bias

2. Confounding and Interaction

3. SPSS – Non-parametric tests (Demo)

4. Sample size estimation using OpenEpi(Demo)

14th October 2022 –

1. Diagnostic tests

2. Correlation and introduction to regression

3. SPSS- Correlation and linear regression (Demo)
