The incident took place at around 1.45am on Friday when the student was seen going towards the hostel’s terrace as per statement of the medical college administration. Before committing suicide, the student went out with his friend to watch a movie on Thursday evening after reaching his hostel room.

It came to light that the student reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to his father saying “I love you" and after that he left all academic WhatsApp groups around 11.45pm on Thursday.

His body was recovered by some senior students at around 3.30am who saw him lying in a pool of blood. Following this, they immediately informed the hostel administration and the student was taken to the hospital on the campus of the FM Medical College and Hospital. The doctor there declared him brought dead.

It is yet unclear whether the incident was suicide or he accidentally fell from the terrace of the building.

Explaining the matter, Manorama Bhuyan, registrar (administration) of the medical college said “The scientific team of the police have visited the campus with sniffer dogs. We also think it is a case of suicide as there was no pressure from the college authorities. We have informed the director of medical education and training."

“When I asked his friends to dial his number, it was switched off. The sniffer dogs found the mobile around 40m away. He might have thrown away the mobile before dying by suicide,” Bhuyan told The Indian Express

According to his father, he was under mental stress and was upset over failure to get scholarship. Although the authorities of the medical college agreed that the deceased was under extreme pressure but stated that the reason is unknown.

On the other hand, his classmates and the medical college authorities have demanded a thorough probe into the unfortunate death.
