MGM Indore Rectifies Blunder in Surgery practicals, Medicos to get revised results soon

Indore: The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College has fixed the error in awarding surgery practical marks to the final-year MBBS students and sent the revised result to the Madhya Pradesh Medical University for new results.

Therefore, the Board of Examination of the University will now consider the matter and after it grants its final nod, the final results would be issued to the students.

Confirming this development, the HoD Surgery, MGM Medical College, Dr. Manish Kaushal told the media, "Fixing the error, we have sent the revised result to the university. We are expecting the change in result in next couple of days."

The institute sent the revised results to the University after getting it signed by all the examiners, including the externals from Jamnagar and Jaipur. For this purpose, the medical college had sent a post-graduate student as a representative.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that altogether 46 MBBS final-year students from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College had failed the surgery practical exams. Taking note of the issue, the issue, the Dean of the institute had earlier written to the Head of the Department of Surgery to look into the matter.

The list of students who became unsuccessful in the final year practical exam includes some of the meritorious students as well. The students had alleged that they were being failed 'unnecessarily' in the practical exam even though they secured good marks in the practical and theory exams of other subjects including surgery.

They claimed that the evaluation process was faulty due to which many of the students failed the exam. They also accused the college administration of delay in rectifying the results highlighting the impact of the results on their careers and the mandatory internships.

Expressing frustration over the alleged goof-up, the final year MBBS students at the institute recently stated a protest and threatened to commit mass suicide "if corrections were not made". 

The surgery department of the medical college has sent the concerned representative, a post-graduate medico, to two external examiners of the surgery's practical exam, to get the revised result signed by them and then send the same to Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur to fix the alleged blunder.

As per the latest media report by the Free Press Journal, the alleged goof-up was done by one of the examiners who had evaluated the students from a total of 10 marks in the place of 60 marks. Further, a clerk was also responsible as the concerned official uploaded the marks without multiplying the given marks with the whole of six. The examiners also failed to catch the blunder before submitting the marks to the University.

However, the medical college sped up the process of rectifying its mistake after the students threatened to commit mass suicide. Finallt, the medical college has sent the revised result to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University for getting new results.
