Motilal nehru medical college MBBS student alleges ragging by seniors, police launches probe
Prayagraj: A shocking ragging allegation has come to light from Motilal Nehru Medical College, where an MBBS student, through a video, accused senior students of physical assault and mental harassment inside the hostel premises.
The matter reportedly surfaced after a junior student, who was allegedly beaten severely, recorded a video of the incident. In the purported video, the student alleged that she and several other juniors were being ragged by senior students. She further accused the medicos of injuring her finger and subjecting juniors to daily physical and mental harassment.
In the video, two students can be seen having a heated and aggressive argument with the student recording the clip. In the background, several students are seen standing silently against a wall.
The junior recording the video is heard saying, "Didi, I am recording this because if I file a complaint, I will need proof that you twisted my finger." She is further heard saying, "They are turning my batchmates against me. These girls are from my lobby."
After this, the two seniors started speaking to the juniors standing against the wall. The juniors were listening to them with their heads bowed and eyes fixed on the ground.
The user who uploaded the video on X (formerly Twitter) said, "Now the entire senior batch is threatening his friends and continuing the torture. Juniors are forced to stand for hours while being assaulted. This is not ragging; this is physical and mental harassment. Strict action is needed against the guilty seniors. Medical colleges must be safe zones, not torture chambers."
Responding to the post, Prayagraj Police said that an investigation is underway and necessary action will be taken. "In connection with the aforementioned case, the Station House Officer of Jarjora has been directed to conduct an investigation and take necessary action," said the police in the post.
Reacting to the video, several social media users condemned the alleged ragging incident and demanded strict action against those involved. One user demanded that the accused students be expelled from the university and debarred from higher education courses for five years. Another user wrote, "They must immediately be removed from the medical profession."
