NMC imposes pre-condition for setting up PG Medical College at Bytco Hospital
Nashik: The apex medical regulator of India, National Medical Commission (NMC) has set a pre-condition for the Nashik Municipal Corporation for setting up the proposed post-graduate medical college at the Bytco Hospital.
As per the condition by the Apex medical body, the Nashik civic body needs to tie up with a local medical college for obtaining initial permission from NMC to run the PG medical college. Such a pre-condition has been brought in place by NMC because the civic body does not any undergraduate medical college of its own.
Following this, the civic body is planning to enter into a a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an Adgaon-based private medical college, Dr Bapusaheb Nagargoje, the medical superintendent of the civic body informed TOI.
The plan for setting up a PG medical college in Nashik has been at place for a couple of years. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a bid to commence the PG medical college and hospital, Nashik Municipal Corporation was planning to augment its existing new Bytco hospital by adding two more storeys to the existing building.
It was decided that the PG medical college would be affiliated to the Mumbai based autonomous education institute- College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS). Although the plans for this medical college had been old, it had to be postponed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
There are around 750 beds including 300 oxygen beds in the Bytco hospital, which were fully occupied during the second wave of the pandemic.
After the COVID situation stabilized, the civic body approached the apex medical body, NMC seeking its nod for the project.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, responding to the request for approval, NMC has asked the civic body to tie-up with a local medical college for enabling the commission for granting initial permission to run a PG medical college at the Bytco Hospital.
Confirming the same, Nagargije told TOI, "The civic body will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an Adgaon-based private medical college. We have written to the management of the medical college about our decision on the issue. Once the college management approves our request, the NMC will sign the MoU."
He further informed the daily that such a condition has been fixed by NMC because currently the civic body does not have any UG medical college. So, after a tie-up with an existing medical college, the infrastructure of that medical college could be used for imparting medical education to the students.
Once, NMC gives its nod after signing the MoU, the civic body would approach MUHS seeking affiliation for the proposed institute.
