NMC notifies on implementation of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan In All Medical Colleges

New Delhi- To combat the menace of drug abuse, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is going to implement Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) in all the medical colleges across India. In addition, the NMC has also decided to constitute a drug-free hostel committee in all colleges/institutions.

On this, NMC has requested all the medical colleges/institutions to undertake the following actions-

Part I: Formation of Nasha Mukt Hostel Committees.

Part II: Formation of the annual schedule of Activities under the Abhiyan.

Part III: Awareness programme for students, faculty and other staff of the college.

Part IV: Submission of Comprehensive Report/Action Taken Report to Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Higher Education and National Medical Commission.

Along with this, the Deans/Principals of all the Medical Colleges/Institutes have also been requested to take proactive steps to implement the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in their respective Medical Colleges/Institutes and submit the action taken report to the Member Secretary of Anti Ragging Cell.

Moreover, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in collaboration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) is also going to initiate a Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC) in all the medical colleges across India soon. This TCC will assist individuals to quit tobacco consumption and thus help in reducing tobacco-related diseases.

On this, today i.e. August 20, 2024, from 02:00 PM to 03:30 PM a webinar will be held to orient all medical institutes regarding the setup and management of these centres. Participation in the webinar is mandatory for all medical institutions to ensure effective implementation of TCC.

Therefore, through a public notice, the NMC has strictly instructed that as a part of the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, all the medical colleges of India must establish a Tobacco Cessation Center under its jurisdiction. The centres should be operationalised as soon as possible, with comprehensive guidance provided via a scheduled webinar.

Furthermore, the Tobacco Cessation Centres are to be officially launched virtually by the Hon’ble Health Minister during the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0. Along with this, all medical colleges have to comply with the guidelines and ensure that their TCCs become fully operational on time.

The MoHFW and NMC has initiated it after the launching of operational guidelines on World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2024.
