PGIMER to hold CME Workshop On Therapeutic Apheresis, Cellular Therapy, Check out registration details, schedule
Chandigarh: A two-day workshop is being organized by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) on Therapeutic Apheresis and Cellular Therapy.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine organizes the Workshop in collaboration with the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and to be held on 15th October 2022 and 16th October 2022 in hybrid mode (Physical as well as Virtual). This CME cum Workshop is being organized with the primary aim of disseminating the wealth of knowledge.
A total of 50 participants can participate physically on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Postgraduate students should apply to their Head of Department.
Fee details –
1. Registration fee for CME up to 30th September 2022 (Virtual) – Rs 1000
2. Registration fee for CME up to 30th September 2022 (Physical) – Rs 15000
3. Spot Registration fee for CME – Rs 2000
4. Registration fee for Workshop up to 30th September 2022 (Physical Only) – Rs 500
The applicants must submit the abstract for oral & poster presentation by 15th September 2022.
Details about the Workshop -
1. The Workshop will provide an opportunity for the participants to know and learn about therapeutic apheresis procedures and their clinical indications.
2. It will include interactive lectures and hands-on sessions on the approach to basic principles of Therapeutic Plasma Exchange, basic prerequisites for the procedures, physiological and biochemical changes related to the procedures, monitoring of the patient, and management of adverse events during TPE.
Who can participate? –
1. Postgraduate students in Transfusion Medicine (MD/DNB/Diploma).
2. Medical Officers/Lab. Technicians and Nursing officers in Blood Centres.
Topics covered –
1. Basic Principles of Therapeutic Plasma Exchange Introduction to the basic format of ASFA guidelines Patient preparation and stem cell harvesting.
2. Quality control, processing, and cryopreservation of stem cells Management of adverse events during apheresis.
3. Role of Apheresis Technologist / Nursing Officer.
4. Demonstration of the procedures - Conventional Therapeutic plasma exchange, TPE with Adsorption columns, Peripheral blood stem cell harvesting, and cryopreservation.
5. Discussion with the experts.

1. ISBT education initiatives and resources to improve transfusion safety.
2. Guidelines for stem cell research in India.
3. CART – T cell Therapy – Manufacturing and clinical application.
4. Current status of mesenchymal stem cell therapy.
5. Developing guidelines for clinical apheresis.
6. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in neurological disorders: Clinical perspective.
7. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in neurological disorders: Transfusion specialist perspective.
8. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in renal disorders: Clinical perspective.
9. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in renal disorders: Transfusion specialist perspective.
10. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in liver disorders: Clinical perspective Therapeutic Plasma. Exchange in liver disorders: Transfusion specialist perspective.
Guidelines to submit abstract –
1. All abstracts must be submitted via email only (transfusionmed63@gmail.com).
2. Abstracts should be written in English.
3. Abstract submission is required in PDF format.
4. Structure the abstract: Background, Aim, Methods, Results, Conclusion; for case reports: Background, Case Summary, Conclusions.
5. CAPITALISE the TITLE.
6. It is the responsibility of the presenting author and the submitter to review the submission status and information and correct them. Submitters are responsible for any typing error in the abstract.
7. The presenting author's name in each abstract should be highlighted and underlined. Submission of more than one abstract by the same author is not permitted.
8. The word limit for the abstract is 300.
9. Indicate the institution where the work was performed.
Abstracts can be submitted under the following headings -

5. Quality Control in Apheresis
6. Adverse Events/ Troubleshooting in Apheresis
PGIMER will send back the acknowledgment of the submission via email reply within a week. The Scientific committee reserves the right to accept/reject any abstracts without assigning any reason thereof. Registration for CME is a prerequisite for Oral or poster presentation.
