Raipur: A senior professor and the head of the medicine department at a Raipur-based Pandit Jawahar Lal Memorial Medical College has been accused of sexually harassing a female medical student. As a result, he has been booked in connection with the case and has been removed from his HOD position at the college.

According to a senior police officer, the student had initially approached the college authorities regarding the doctor's inappropriate behaviour. The college then conducted an internal inquiry, and the doctor was removed from his position as Head of Department (HoD). Later, the student decided to take the matter to the police.

As per The Hindu news report, the student filed a complaint against the doctor, and the case was registered under sections 74 (Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 75 (Sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023.

Based on the complaint, a police team went to the accused doctor's residence to arrest him but he was found missing. Therefore, the doctor is currently on the run, and the police are making an effort to locate him.

When contacted, the Dean of the medical college told Indian Express, “We have not received any information from the police and the student did not inform us that she is approaching the police. I am getting information from the media. She (the victim) had approached us with a complaint and the Vishakha committee (also known as the Internal Complaints Committee ICC) made a report based on her allegations against the doctor and sent it to the government.”
