Rajamahendravaram Medical College to offer 150 MBBS seats this academic year

Kakinada: Giving medical aspirants a reason to celebrate, Andhra Pradesh State Medical, Health and Family Welfare Minister Viddala Rajini recently announced that admission process for Rajamahendravaram Medical College built at a cost of 475 crore with 150 MBBS seats will commence from this academic session 2023-24.

The announcement came after Rajini visited the construction site of the upcoming medical college on Monday. She informed the media that the state government has given the permission to commence classes in the Rajamahendravaram Medical College from this academic year. However NMC approval in this regard is pending.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) is expected to give permission to start the classes from the 2023-24 academic years (AY) soon.

While speaking in this regard, Health Minister Vidadala Rajani said that four out of the five medical colleges were inspected by NMC who expressed their satisfaction and is reported to give its nod for the academic session soon.

Earlier Rajahmundry MP Margani Bharat Ram had inspected the construction site and confirmed that the construction of the medical college was progressing rapidly with the most advanced technology in Rajahmundry.

Bharat Ram said the medical college will be ready by the end of coming April this year. It was approved by the state government to build the medical college on three acres of land with buildings that are G+1 stories high.

The medical college cum hospital will provide an opportunity for medical aspirants to shine and at the same time, it will be of great benefit to the people of East Godavari district.

Commenting on this, Rajini said that 17 medical colleges are being set up in the state. The beds for Rajamahendravaram Medical College Hospital will increase soon with time. Currently 350 beds have been arranged for the hospital. 

She also told DC "The construction works for the boys’ hostels, administrative buildings and medical college class rooms are being expedited."

The AP Cabinet had earlier given approval for 3,530 posts for five new medical colleges in Nandyal, Machilipatnam, Eluru, Rajamahendravaram and Vizianagaram which are all set to start from next academic year (2023-24).

As per NMC norms, 222 posts are allotted to each medical college and 484 posts to the affiliated teaching hospital. Accordingly, the Cabinet has decided on 3,530 posts at the rate of 706 posts for each medical college.
