Unable to appear in final year exams: Rama Medical College PG medicos on Indefinite Strike
Hapur: The Postgraduate medical students of Rama Medical College, Hapur have declared an indefinite strike as they are unable to appear in the PG final-year examination scheduled to commence on June 24, 2023.
While there are only two days left for the examinations to begin, the final-year PG medical students of the medical college could not even fill up the form as the name of their college was not included in the website of Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU). Now, the final-year residents are facing the loss of an entire year.
Protesting against the matter, the PG residents of the medical college have now initiated an indefinite strike. Except for the emergency services, all kinds of elective health facilities at the institute have now been shut down.
Photos and videos of the protesting students have now become viral on social media and doctors are seen protesting together wearing white coats. Extending their solidarity to the protesting students, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has come forward and urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take strict action.
"The Resident Doctors of #Rama medical college Hapur are on indefinite strike because the univ.(CCSU) is not allowing them to sit for exam due to mismanagement by their college authorities for not submitting their thesis to university. @myogiadityanath kindly take strict action!" FAIMA mentioned in the Tweet.
Without clearing the exams, the final-year residents will not be able to appear in the super-speciality examination as well. If they are not allowed to appear in the exam scheduled to commence on the 24th of June, it is likely that they will have to appear for the examination along with the supplementary batch.
Raising the issue, Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, the National Zonal Coordinator of the Indian Medical Association Medical Students' Network (IMA-MSN) mentioned in a Tweet, "Imagine getting admission in PG residency and getting to know during your final year residency that you are exempted from exams because your college is not affiliated and has not submitted your thesis. That's RAMA medical college (Hapur) for you !"
Speaking to Medical Dialogues in this regard, Dr Chauhan added, "Final-year residents could not fill up the form and they are unable to appear in the examination. I got to know there is some issue regarding affiliation. The name of the college was not included in the website of the university and that's why they could not fill up the form. All the students are now protesting in the college and medical services have been shut down. Their main demand is to be allowed in the examination."
While commenting on the matter, Dr Karan Juneja, National Standing Committee member of IMA JDN told Medical Dialogues, "This is a very stressful situation for the students as their entire future is now uncertain."
"The college and the university authority should come forward and resolve the matter on an urgent basis. Government should also intervene," added Dr. Juneja, who is also an alumnus of CCSU Meerut.
