Hyderabad: Cybercrime detectives of the Hyderabad police recently conducted searches at the premises of the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) in connection with a fake MBBS degree scam.

The scam concerns four doctors including a woman, who approached the council for renewal of their license. However, the details of their registration didn't match with the data of the medical council, as per which doctors with the same names are practising elsewhere.

Police are trying to find out if any random anonymous person was responsible for the mismatching of the details of those candidates holding fake degrees or if the state medical council staff were to be blamed for this mishap.

After verifying the records on Friday, the preliminary probe has revealed that a technical error of TSMC might have been responsible for it, reports NIE.

However, police are trying to dig deeper to ascertain if the error was pre-planned. Besides, they are also trying to find if there are similar candidates with such errors.

As per the latest media report by the New Indian Express, the issue unfolded after four doctors, claiming to be graduated in 2016, approached the Council and requested for the renewal of their registrations.

However, it was during the process of renewal that the medical council noted that the details of the license of those candidates didn't match with the council data.

Taking note of the error, the registrar of the medical council, Ch Hanmantha Rao lodged a complaint and consequently, a case was registered in the matter, the Cyber Crime ACP of Hyderabad, KVM Prasad informed NIE.

The probe revealed that one of those four doctors who had requested for the renewal of their licenses had a hospital in Delhi and the list also included a woman.

On the other hand, the Council data revealed that the persons who are practising with those names are in different parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Police investigation is now trying to trace those people for the verification of their credentials.

As the process for registering doctors and renewing their licenses is a secured process, which can only be accessed by the TSMC staff, police are trying to find out if the security was compromised for fabricating the details of those candidates.
