Adesh University MD, MS Students Write to NMC seeking expedition of Final PG exams Process

Alleging harassment against the University, the students have mentioned in the letter how the examination process is getting delayed which was earlier scheduled to take place on May 8 and rescheduled to be conducted on June 8.

Pointing out that Baba Farid University in Punjab has already initiated the examination process, and further referring to earlier NMC advisory for holding the PG final year exams at the earliest, the students urged before the Post Graduate Medical Education Board of NMC to direct the Adesh University to expedite the process of examination and help the students move ahead in their careers.

Raising the voice of the students, the Association of Physicians of India, Malwa Branch has also sent representations to higher authorities, including NMC, Union Health Minister, and Prime Minister to direct the University to conduct the examination at the earliest as the delay in conducting the exams could lead the careers of the students at stake.

Speaking to Medical Dialogues regarding the issue, Prof Dr. Vitull K Gupta, Chairman Association of Physicians of India ( Malwa Branch) said, "These students were admitted in 2018. They have completed their tenure in May, 2021. The exam was earlier delayed because of the Covid situation. NMC has already directed all the medical colleges to conduct the exam at the earliest. Baba Farid University and SHRD University have already conducted the exams."

"When the students at Adesh University approached the University authorities requesting them to expedite the process of the examination, they didn't receive any satisfactory answer. When the students asked for my help I suggested them to write to the NMC regarding the issue. On the basis of their application, I have also written to the higher authorities including the Prime Minister and the Health Minister to look into the matters of the grievances of the students," added Prof Gupta, who is also a Health and Human Rights Activist.

"As a result of the exams getting delayed the future of these students are at stake as they will not be eligible to appear in the Superspecialty exams which will be conducted in the near future," he further mentioned adding that a case is pending before the High Court as well regarding the increase in fees at the University.

While commenting on the matter, a student from the University told Hindustan Times, "The delay means that our chance to study further for super-specialty courses from this year could be wasted," adding that the University has not even released a date sheet for the examination.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Mahajan, the Principal of the Institute has told the daily, "The pandemic has led to the delay in conduct of exams across the country. With the NCM giving its go-ahead, we will announce the exam dates soon."
