New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has informed about the allowance of one Additional Attempt for DNB/DrNB Final Practical Examinations.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) took the decision while appreciating the contribution of DNB/ DrNB trainees as frontline warriors during the COVID-19 pandemic and concerned with the challenges faced by them in appearing for the examinations during this period.

The Governing Body of NBEMS has decided that all candidates who have applied for DNB/DrNB Final Practical Examinations during COVID times (from December 2019 session to June 2021 session) but could not qualify the same and have now exhausted all their eligible attempts, are allowed to take ONE additional practical examination attempt in December 2021 session as a ONE-TIME measure, stated the NBE notice.

This additional attempt cannot be availed in any session after DNB/DrNB Final Examinations December 2021 session.

Such candidates can apply as ONLY PRACTICAL candidates for December 2021 session and should choose the attempt in the application as "EXTRA". The applications can be submitted online at NBEMS website https://natboard.edu.in latest by 20th April 2022 (11:55 PM).

The Government of India established the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in 1975 with the objective of improving the quality of the Medical Education by establishing high and uniform standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine on an all-India basis and utilizing existing infrastructure for capacity building.

NBEMS at present conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved specialties leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) respectively. The Examinations conducted by NBEMS provide a common standard and mechanism of evaluation of minimum level of attainment of the knowledge and competencies of medical specialties. Moreover, intra country and international comparisons are facilitated with the availability of common evaluation mechanism.
