NBE notifies on Formative Assessment Test 2025, Check complete details

New Delhi- Through an official notice, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced the schedule for the Formative Assessment Test (FAT) 2025.

With this, NBEMS is inviting online applications from trainees across various DNB, DrNB, Diploma programmes.

Applications can be submitted only online at the NatBoard official website till October 17, 2025 (11:55 PM) for institutions, and until October 22, 2025 (11:55 PM) for trainees. The application process requires coordination between NBEMS-accredited institutions and trainees. Institutions must register eligible candidates and make the exam fee payment, while trainees need to upload their documents and select test cities.

According to the official notice, the FAT 2025 will be held for trainees of DNB Post Diploma (2024 session), NBEMS Diploma (2024 session), DNB Post MBBS (2023 & 2021 sessions), and DrNB Super Speciality (2023 session). However, the FAT for FNB trainees admitted in 2024 will be conducted separately in due course.

The assessment will be conducted in three parts, i.e. Part I, Part II and Part III. For Part I, the theory Examination is scheduled for 14th November 2025 across India. For Part II, the work Place-Based Clinical Assessment to be held at centres allotted by NBEMS. For Part III, the performance Counselling Session on theory performance following the declaration of results.

Meanwhile, the admit cards will be issued on 10th November 2025. The Work Place-Based Clinical Assessments are scheduled between December 2025 and February 2026. Below is the complete schedule-

Through the notice, NBEMS has further emphasised that appearance in a minimum number of FATs is mandatory for eligibility to appear in the final exit examinations. For instance, trainees in 3-year broad speciality and super speciality courses must clear at least two FATs, while post-diploma and fellowship trainees must appear in one.

EXAMINATION FEE

The examination fee is Rs 6000/- per trainee, which is to be paid by Training Institutions only through the NBEMS Online Gateway integrated in the FAT application form.

INSTRUCTIONS TO FILL ONLINE FAT 2025 APPLICATION FORM

1 The application form for FAT 2025 is a joint application to be filled in by the training institution and trainees registered at that institute. Whereas the institute will select the trainees who would be appearing in the FAT 2025, the selected trainees will be required to upload their photograph, signature and choose the test cities where they would like to appear in the FAT theory examination.

2 Both the institute and the trainee shall log in to their applications using a separate set of login credentials. Applications for institutions and trainees shall be available as per the schedule indicated under “Important Dates”. No extension of the prescribed timelines shall be permissible.

STEP 1- Add trainees for FAT (To be completed by the Institute).

STEP 2- Confirmation and Payment (To be completed by the Institute).

STEP 3- Upload photograph, upload signature and Selection of test city (To be completed by the Trainee).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1 Trainees who could not appear in their scheduled FAT in the past due to any exigencies but otherwise fulfil the eligibility to appear in the Formative Assessment Test can also be added as additional trainees by training institutions.

2 Trainees found to be ineligible at any stage of FAT 2025 will not be permitted to appear in the examination. In the unlikely event of any ineligible trainee appearing and/or being successful in the FAT 2025, the results/ candidature of such trainee shall be cancelled and/or are deemed to be cancelled.

3 A candidate registered with NBEMS as a DNB/DrNB/NBEMSDiploma trainee of the below-mentioned admission sessions may appear for the FAT 2025. FAT for the 1st year FNB trainees of the 2024 admission session shall be conducted in due course.

SCHEME OF FAT 2025

1 As per NBEMS norms, appearance in the minimum required number of Formative Assessment Tests is mandatory towards eligibility for appearing in Final Examinations.

2 An eligible trainee is permitted to appear in both the FAT Theory Examination and Workplace-Based Clinical Assessment.

3 Those who fail to appear in the Theory Examination shall not be allowed to appear in the Workplace-Based Clinical Assessment.

4 Absenteeism from Workplace-Based Clinical Assessment after appearing in the Theory Examination shall not be counted towards appearance in the Formative Assessment Test.

5 Any exemption from appearing in FAT is not permissible. Any scheduled trainee who fails to appear in FAT for any reason shall be considered ABSENT in FAT 2025. Such trainees can appear in the FAT of next year, as and when it is conducted, in order to fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements of appearance in the FAT.

TEST DAY PROCEDURES FOR THEORY EXAMINATION

1 NBEMS shall be conducting the Computer-Based Test (CBT) in a safe and secure environment, maintaining social distancing norms wherever needed. NBEMS reserves its right to review the test day processes of conduct of CBT in hybrid mode.

2 Trainees reporting late or beyond the prescribed time shall not be allowed to appear in the exam under any circumstances. NBEMS shall not be responsible for any delay arrival of the trainee in reaching the centre for any reason.

3 The exact address and location of the test centres shall be indicated in the admit card. Trainees are advised to familiarise themselves with the test centre locations at least one day prior to the examination day and ensure that they report for the exam as per the scheduled time only.

4 Please note that only the Trainees who have been issued an admit card will be allowed entry inside the examination centre premises, subject to the fulfilment of documentary requirements.

5 Friends or relatives accompanying the Trainees will not be allowed entry in the examination centre premises under any circumstances and will not be allowed to contact the trainee while the examination process is ongoing.

CENTRES FOR FAT 2025

1 NBEMS reserves its right to add or remove a test city from the list above due to logistical, administrative or other reasons.

2 The exact venue will be informed to the Trainees through the admit cards. The Trainees shall make their own arrangements for travel/boarding, etc.

3 At the time of online submission of the application form, the trainee will be required to indicate his/her first and second choice of the exam city in which he/she want to take the exam. NBEMS will make all efforts to allocate the exam centre in the city of the first choice.

4 Trainees will be informed regarding their test cities through email by 31st October 2025 and regarding the test venue through the admit card.

5 The list of test cities is purely tentative. In an extraordinary situation where the particular city chosen by the Trainees could not be considered for the conduct of the examination due to security audit issues at test centres or other logistic issues/unforeseen reasons, Trainees who would have opted for such test cities shall be accommodated at test centres in nearby cities available. Such a change of test cities, if any, shall be intimated through email in advance to the concerned Trainees. NBEMS reserves its right to allocate the test centre anywhere in the country, irrespective of the test city chosen by the trainee, to maintain the sanctity of the examination.
