NBE proposes to Commence 2 year FNB Paediatric Orthopaedics Course
Bhopal: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants, the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS, NBE) along with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is working on a proposal to start a two-year Fellowship of National Board (FNB) course in Paediatric Orthopaedics.
For this, a renowned Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Prof. Ajai Singh, who is currently working as the Director of AIIMS Bhopal will lead a team of experts in order to finalise the curriculum and the minimum requirements for the concerned course.
NBEMS had been established with the objective of improving the quality of the Medical Education. It also conducts post graduate and post-doctoral examinations in approved disciplines leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board (DNB), Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) and Fellow of National Board (FNB). The FNB qualifications are recognized qualifications in terms of the Gazette notification dated 10th August 2016.
While NBE offer FNB courses in 29 specialities for the Indian Students and 11 specialities for the International students, now it has proposed to start a two-year FNB course in Paediatrics Orthopaedics.
The speciality course in Paediatric Orthopaedics deals with musculoskeletal problems of bone, joint and muscle in a child who is still growing. Apart from this, it also deals with musculoskeletal problems in young adults.
It is an upcoming branch of specialty and recently the National Medical Commission has also started MCh courses in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about the MCh course, which has a duration of 3 years and it focuses on preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects to competently treat children with musculoskeletal conditions.
As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, the FNB course proposed by NBE will be two years long and the curriculum of the course along with minimum requirements are being finalised by a team of experts led by Prof Ajai Singh, along with NBEMS.
For more than a decade Prof Singh has been treating childhood bone diseases and he also played an instrumental role for commencing a super-specialty department in Paediatric Orthopaedics at King George Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.
Therefore, NBEMS has chosen him to lead the team of experts after taking in account his experience in the field along with his administrative experience.
