NEET 2021: Father-Daughter Duo Arrested for paying Rs 50 lakh for MBBS seat, Involvement with Solver Gang

An investigation has revealed that the man had approached the members of the solver gang for ensuring his daughter's admission to the MBBS course. For this, he had allegedly paid Rs 50 lakh, reports News 18.

Solvers are those who impersonate the actual candidate and take an entrance test, in this case it being the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), a qualifying test for MBBS and BDS programmes in medical and dental colleges.

This gang was exposed after the arrest of a student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who was taking the examination at the place of another student, adds PTI.

Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said on Monday that this is the first arrest of a candidate in the NEET solver gang case.

Gopal Vishwas, a resident of the Dhulai district of Tripura, was arrested after getting evidence of his connection with the solver gang, said Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh.

The Commissioner of Police said that during interrogation, Vishwas has admitted that he had contacted Tripura's Pradipta Bhattacharya and Mrityunjay Devnath to get his daughter admitted to the medical course. The deal was fixed for Rs 50 lakh.

The investigation by UP Police revealed that at least 25 students could be involved in the solver gang racket. In order to probe the role of the impersonators, the police had obtained sample fingerprints filled on the form and had matched them with all the candidates. Varanasi Police had earlier found the mastermind behind the NEET solver gang, who is currently on the run along with his family.

Earlier CBI had also registered a case against a coaching centre based in Nagpur. The center allegedly used to send medical students and experts to appear in the NEET exam on behalf of the aspirants.

The daily further adds that the cases of proxy are being probed in at least five exam centers based in Ranchi and Delhi.
