NEET PG 2025: Extend Internship Deadline for MP students- Doctors urge Health Minister, NMC
NEET PG Admissions
New Delhi: Thousands of postgraduate aspirants in Madhya Pradesh may become ineligible to appear in the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2025 examination due to the delay in publication of their results.
While the internship completion deadline for NEET PG 2025 is 31 July, 2025, due to administrative delays, these students will not be able to complete their 12-month compulsory internship within this time limit.
Highlighting the concerns of these students, the United Doctors Front (UDF) has written to the Union Health Minister J P Nadda requesting for an extension of the Internship Completion cutoff date to 31st August 2025 for the MPMSU Students. UDF President Dr. Lakshya Mittal formally urged the Minister to intervene and address the concerns of hundreds of students, who are at the risk of being ineligible for PG medical entrance through no fault of their own.
The representation was jointly submitted by United Doctors Front (UDF) core members Dr. Amit Vyas, Dr. Yagika Pareek, and Dr. Rakesh Beniwal under the leadership of National President Dr Lakshya Mittal, highlighting a significant administrative delay in the declaration of Final Year MBBS results by Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU).
Issuing a notification on 16.08.2025, MP Medical Science University declared the results of the MBBS Final Part-II (Supplementary & Ex.) Examination, June 2024 on 16th August 2024. Consequently, the official commencement of internship for the affected students began on 19th August 2024 or later in some of the affiliated colleges. Therefore, these students will no be able to complete the internship as per the prescribed deadline i.e. 31st July 2025.
UDF in its recent letter directed to the Union Health Minister highlighted the issues faced by these students of the 2019 MBBS batch of the MPMSU, Jabalpur and pointed out that the existing eligibility criteria for NEET PG 2025, particularly, the Internship completion deadline may adversely affect numerous students "due to administrative delays beyond their control."
Referring to the delay in publication of the results and the consequent delay in starting the internship, UDF mentioned in the letter, "This delay, which was purely administrative in nature, will result in the completion of the mandatory 12-month internship period after the current NEET PG 2025 eligibility cutoff date of 31st July 2025, thereby making a large number of otherwise eligible and meritorious students ineligible to appear for the examination."
The association urged the Union Health Minister to extend the internship completion cutoff to 31st August 2025 and mentioned, "In light of the above and considering the recent rescheduling of NEET PG 2025, we earnestly request the National Medical Commission to kindly consider extending the internship completion cutoff date to 31st August 2025. This modest extension would ensure that all affected candidates receive a fair and equitable opportunity to compete in NEET PG 2025, in line with the principles of justice and academic parity."
A copy of the letter was also sent to the Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the NMC Secretary and the Director of the NMC Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB).
"Official internship commencement confirmations issued by college authorities have also been furnished by the concerned students for your kind perusal. We trust in the Commission's commitment to transparency, fairness, and student welfare, and we remain hopeful that this genuine and time-sensitive concern will be addressed expeditiously," UDF added in the letter.
Commenting on the matter, Dr. Mittal told Medical Dialogues, "The delay was purely administrative, and not due to academic failure or negligence on the part of students."
"We request the National Medical Commission (NMC) to take a sympathetic view and extend the deadline to 31st August 2025," he added.
The plea for an extension of Internship completion deadline comes at a time when the NEET PG 2025 exam date was deferred from June 15 to August 3. The exam date was deferred after the Supreme Court held that conducting the exam in two shifts would lead to arbitrariness and therefore, the Apex Court directed the National Board of Examination (NBE) to make arrangements for conducting the exam in a single shift.
