NEET PG: 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, MCh seats available in India for 2026-27, highest in MD Medicine- NMC releases PG medical seat matrix

New Delhi: With additional postgraduate medical seats, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a seat matrix showing a total of 63177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-2027.

Further, the NMC has clarified that the Seat Matrix does not include the seats in respect of applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27. 

Releasing the postgraduate seat details, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC in a notice on September 29, mentioned, "The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), National Medical Commission (NMC), has placed in the public domain the details of Medical Colleges/Institutions, along with the Postgraduate (PG) courses and annual intake capacity approved for participation in the Counselling for the Academic Year 2026–27. The enclosed Seat Matrix reflects the PG courses and seats approved by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) for the Academic Year 2026–27, as on the date of publication of this Notice."

Further, it stated, "The Seat Matrix does not include the seats in respect of applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27. The additional PG seats/courses, wherever approved subsequently, shall be incorporated in a subsequent updated Seat Matrix and published on the official website of the National Medical Commission. The enclosed Seat Matrix shall remain subject to revision, wherever required, on account of any decision of MARB, the competent Appeal Committee, or any other competent authority. Any revised Seat Matrix, wherever applicable, shall be uploaded on the official website of the National Medical Commission and shall be taken into consideration by the Counselling Committees of the Central Government and the respective State Governments/Union Territories for counselling and admissions."

In addition to this, NMC has advised all concerned stakeholders, including medical colleges, institutions and counselling committees, to carefully check the published seat matrix. Any error, discrepancy, omission or inconsistency should be immediately reported to the President or Director of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) through the designated email addresses. It said that wherever possible, such issues should be brought to the notice of MARB before the counselling process begins.

"All Medical Colleges/Institutions shall strictly ensure that admissions to PG courses are made only against the number of seats approved by MARB for the Academic Year 2026–27 and reflected in the latest notified Seat Matrix. Under no circumstances shall any Medical College/Institution admit students in excess of its approved PG intake capacity. Any admission made beyond the approved intake capacity shall constitute a violation of the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder, and shall attract appropriate regulatory and penal action against the defaulting Medical College/Institution in accordance with the applicable provisions of law. In case any Counselling Committee notices any discrepancy or deviation in the latest notified Seat Matrix, the matter shall immediately be referred to MARB for clarification. The concerned Medical Colleges/Institutions and Counselling Committees shall ensure strict compliance with the approved Seat Matrix and all applicable directions, regulations, and conditions stipulated by the National Medical Commission/MARB. Any deviation noticed at any stage shall be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder," the notice added.

Speciality-wise PG medical and SS seats 2026-27:

Speciality-wise, a total of 67 seats are available in D.M. Cardiac Anaesthesia, 592 in D.M. Cardiology, 41 in D.M. Clinical Haematology, 56 in D.M. Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, 9 in D.M. Clinical Pharmacology, 135 in D.M. Critical Care Medicine, 117 in D.M. Endocrinology, 5 in D.M. Geriatric Mental Health, 33 in D.M. Hepatology, 17 in D.M. Infectious Disease, 41 in D.M. Interventional Radiology, 257 in D.M. Medical Gastroenterology, 9 in D.M. Medical Genetics, 178 in D.M. Medical Oncology, 114 in D.M. Neonatology, 288 in D.M. Nephrology, 26 in D.M. Referring to the MARB Notice, NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer wrote to the Director/Principal/Dean of all medical colleges under NMC and informed them about the seat matrix for Post-Graduate courses for the Academic Year 2026-27.

"Reference is invited to Public Notice dated 29-09-2026 as issued by Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission (NMC) on the above subject matter being self-explanatory inter-alia enclosing the Seat Matrix for Postgraduate (PG) seats for the Academic Year 2026–27 (as on 29.09.2026) which shall remain subject to revision, if required, based on the decisions of the Appeal Committee or any other Competent Authority. The enclosed Seat Matrix does not include the seats in respect of applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the Academic Year 2026–27. The additional PG seats/courses, wherever approved subsequently, shall be incorporated in a subsequent updated Seat Matrix and published on the official website of the National Medical Commission. The above said Public Notice indicate certain instructions/directions both for the Medical Colleges and the Counselling Committees for necessary compliance. All Medical Colleges shall strictly ensure that admissions are made only against the approved number of seats. Accordingly, all Medical Colleges/Institutions and concerned stakeholders are requested to take note of the instructions/directions for compliance and necessary action on their part," the communication by the NMC Secretary added.
