NMC nod for two MCh Hand Surgery seats at Stanley Medical College

Chennai: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Tamil Nadu, the National Medical Commission has given its permission for two Super Specialty seats at Stanley Medical College.
The nod for the Apex medical education regulatory body has come for two MCh seats in Hand Surgery, which is a first for a Government Medical College in India, adds The Hindu.
Master Chirugiae (MCh) is a super-speciality degree pursued after the completion of the postgraduate degree i.e. Master of Surgery (MS). MCh is considered to be the highest master's degree in Surgical Science and while pursuing this course the doctors get specialized postgraduate/doctoral degree. However, in order to enrol for this course, a medical degree is a prerequisite.
During the three years MCh course in Hand Surgery, the doctors acquire knowledge for management of diseases and injuries of hand, learn to manage and follow-up patients undergoing hand surgery. acquire teaching skills in relevant aspects of hand surgery, become able to communicate about the aspect of hand surgery. They also learn to perform clinical examination of the hand, wrist, upper limb relevant to damage, disease and disability of the hand, provide primary care for hand injuries, and learn various surgical procedures relevant to hand surgery.
