NMC nod to 2 DM Endocrinology seats at Goa Medical College

Panaji: Bringing good news to the Postgraduate medical aspirants in Goa, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently approved two Doctorate of Medicine (DM) seats in Endocrinology at the Goa Medical College and Hospital for the academic year 2022-2023.

The nod for the DM Endocrinology, which is available only in a select medical colleges across the country, has come after the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC reviewed the Assessor's Report regarding the infrastructure of the college.

However, the medical college is yet to get the Letter of Permission (LoP) from NMC and for this it has to submit an undertaking and other essential documents.

The NMC order in this regard states, "It is to inform that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) reviewed the Assessor's Report dated 12.05.2022 regarding faculty, their experience, publication and other teaching facilities, including infrastructure available at Goa Medical College, Goa under Goa University in the State of Goa for starting of course DM (Endocrinology) for the academic year 2022-23."

Run by the Government, the Goa Medical College and Hospital is one of the oldest medical colleges in Asia and presently it is operating as an organic institution of Goa University.

Doctorate of Medicine in Endocrinology is a Post Doctorate Super-specialty medicine course which has a duration of three years. While Endocrinology involves studying the endocrine, the DM Endocrinology course has been designed for producing competent endocrinologist for treating and diagnosing the glandular system related problems.

As per the latest media report by Goemkarponn, Goa Medical College has now received the NMC nod for 2 DM Endocrinology seats and the Apex medical commission has also decided obtaining an undertaking and other required documents from the college before it issues the Letter of permission (LoP).

While commenting on this development, the State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, "This will further raise the bar of GMC to a higher level as it will boost research and academics."
