NMC nod to Kolhapur Medical College to begin 6 MD, MS courses with 38 seats
NMC has given nod for PG medical courses in medicine, general surgery, microbiology, ENT, gynaecology, and anaesthesiology. However, the courses which are yet to get approved by NMC are anatomy, physiology, and paediatrics.
Kolhapur: In a major milestone for the Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Medical College in Kolhapur, the college has finally been permitted by the National Medical Commission to begin admission in new PG medical courses in 38 seats.
The 6 courses for which NMC, the apex medical education regulatory body has given its approval include medicine, general surgery, microbiology, ENT, gynecology, and anaesthesiology. However, the PG courses in anatomy, physiology, and pediatrics are yet to get NMC's nod, reports TOI.
The medical college was operating with 150 seats for MBBS course, but now, it has received permission to admit students for higher education in 38 seats.
The college, founded back in 2000, is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Civil Hospital is attached with the medical college.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the college authorities have opined that this permission for new PG medical courses would help strengthen the healthcare service provided to the patients as well. Further, the approval for PG courses in the government medical college will help the students with the opportunity of hard training. Besides, the fees for higher education in government medical colleges are far lesser than those run by private management.
While commenting on the NMC nod for admitting students in PG medical courses, the vice-dean of the medical college, Sangita Kumbhojkar told TOI, "The inspections were done by a team deployed by the NMC earlier this year. We have all the required facilities — library, teaching hall, top doctors — to start PG courses. The MBBS graduates after completing their internship will be enrolled into these PG courses based on their ranks in all-India PG entrance exam. We will get top medical graduates available for the service of the patients. They will undergo on-job training for three years."
