PG Medical Fees Increase by Rs 10 Lakh in Maharashtra Deemed institutes
Mumbai: The postgraduate medical courses will be costlier in Maharashtra as the deemed medical colleges nationwide have announced steep hikes in their fees for PG medical courses, after increasing the fees for the MBBS courses.
Among these, the two medical colleges run by the MGM Group- one in Navi Mumbai and the other one in Aurangabad have increased their fees by a big amount. The fees for several PG medical courses at these two institutes have increased to Rs 40 lakh per annum from Rs 30 lakh annual fees last year. FPJ has reported that these colleges have also increased their fees for other branches by Rs 5 lakh.
According to experts, this hike in the PG medical fees is mainly due to the Central Government's decision of bringing the cut-off marks for NEET PG exams to zero. As soon as the Centre lowered the NEET-PG qualifying cut-offs last year, several private institutes had hiked their fees for some branches mid-way through the admission process.

Commenting on the matter, a Thane-based medical counsellor, Muzaffar Khan told the Free Press Journal that "The government has commercialised the PG medical education by making zero percentile eligible for admissions. The prestige associated with medical education will be impacted because it is becoming pure business," adding that such practice will prompt medical colleges to continue increasing their fees.
In the case of Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore, the authorities have announced a Rs 10 lakh hike from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for dermatology and radio diagnosis branches. The fees have increased by Rs 5 lakh at Sri Ramchandra Medical College in Chennai and Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi.
The dermatology and radio diagnosis courses are most expensive at Sree Balaji Medical College, where the fee is Rs 70 lakh, which has increased by Rs 5 lakh from Rs 65 lakh in 2023.
Apart from these, some of the other private, non-deemed medical colleges have also witnessed a fee hike. The MBBS fees at KJ Somaiya College have been fixed at Rs 12 lakh. The MBBS fee is highest in Maharashtra at Vedanta Institute of Medical Sciences in Palghar, where the fee is Rs 17.03 lakh.
Although Kashibai Navale Medical College in Pune has not increased the fee this year, its course is already expensive as it costs more than Rs 14 lakh per annum. The fees for the MBBS course ts Rs 13,08 lakh at NKP Salve Institute, Nagpur for 2024-2025. In the case of Prakash College from Sangli, the fee this year is fixed at Rs 7.63 lakh. Amrita Institute and Sri Ramchandra Medical College have increased their MBBS charges by Rs 6 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively.
