Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the issue of alleged irregularities and seat blocking in admission to PG medical seats in the private medical colleges of the State, the Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday directed the Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, to submit a detailed report regarding the issue on an urgent basis.

Such a step has been taken by the Governor as he took serious note of the news reports concerning "Medical PG seat blocking scam", a release from Raj Bhavan stated.

As per the allegations, several eligible state rank holders have been denied admission to PG medical courses as a result of the seat blocking scam, adds PTI.

"She (Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan) being a doctor herself was anguished with the news and directed the Vice-Chancellor of KNRUHS, Warangal, to submit a detailed report immediately duly initiating the corrective measures," it said.

The university authorities, while checking the ongoing admission process, recently found some "discrepancies" in the merit list with regard to 45 applicants (wherein seats were blocked in the names of students), who had applied for counselling for admission into postgraduate courses offered by private medical colleges.

Subsequently, the university authorities wrote to such students asking them if they had applied, but most students said they had not sought admissions (that they had not blocked the seats) at the KNRUHS.

There are 33 medical colleges under the jurisdiction of KNRUHS, comprising nine government colleges, 20 run by private managements and four minority colleges.

Meanwhile, the Warangal police said following a complaint from the university authorities they are investigating into the matter.

Earlier, Medical Dialogues had reported that the authority in charge of AIQ counselling, the Medical Counselling Committee(MCC) had recently released an Advisory against seat blocking in the Mop-up Round of NEET PG counselling 2021 with respect to MD, MS, PG Diploma and DNB admissions this academic year.

It had advised all the State Counselling Authorities and participating candidates in NEET-PG Counselling to take note of the following advisory details as released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, MoHFW after receiving representations from candidates seeking advice regarding their eligibility to participate in the Mop-Up round conducted by MCC after the completion of Round 2 conducted by the State Authorities.

MCC had further clarified that Mop-Up round was only for those candidates who had not joined any seat during the previous rounds of counselling.
Recently, a group of doctors approached the Supreme Court flagging the seat-blocking issue and they sought permission to appear in the Mop-Up round of the NEET PG counselling with a free exit option.
