Hyderabad: Raising concerns over alleged fee-related harassment of medical students by two private medical colleges despite interim orders of the Telangana High Court, doctors in the State have sought immediate intervention from the concerned university under which the colleges function.

In a formal complaint to the Registrar of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) urged the university to ensure that the medical colleges comply with the court's directions.

The association claimed that students who were allotted seats under the MQ1 category during Round-2 counselling and later joined CMR Institute of Medical Sciences and MNR Medical College and Hospital are facing problems with fee payments.

According to HRDA, despite interim orders issued by the Telangana High Court regarding fee collection, the managements of the two colleges are allegedly demanding full fees from the students. The association said that this goes against the court’s interim directions.

HRDA further stated that some students have complained of being threatened with failure and facing academic pressure and harassment if they do not make immediate payments. The association alleged that such actions are causing mental stress and hardship for both the students and their parents.

As a result, the association requested KNRUHS to take immediate cognisance of the complaint and issue strict directions to both institutions to ensure complete compliance with the High Court’s interim orders without deviation.

The Hindu reported that the association also sought intervention to prevent coercive and unlawful fee collection practices and to ensure that neither institution threatens students with failure or academic victimisation.

Further, the association urged the university to call for an immediate compliance report from both colleges and to initiate necessary action against the management in the event of any proven violations.
