Chennai: Two doctors and a mediator have been arrested for allegedly tricking medical students who failed their studies by promising them fake medical degree certificates in exchange for a hefty amount.

According to the police, the three accused were carrying out this scam operation who managed to trick many medical students by promising them fake degree certificates, giving these students hope for their future even if they failed their exams.

What came as more shocking was the fact that doctors were involved in the scam and extracted money from these medical students by fooling them into something nearly impossible.

As per a TNIE news report, the accused have been identified as 32-year-old Kingsley from Kanyakumari, his brother 30-year-old Ezhilarasu and 27-year-old Vijay Prakash from Cuddalore. Kingsley is an MBBS and MS graduate and works as a professor in a private medical college in Chengalpattu. Ezhilarasu is an MBBS graduate and a practising physician. Vijay Prakash played the role of an intermediary who collected money from students and provided it to the brothers.

The incident was uncovered after the Maraimalai Nagar police received a complaint from a private medical college in Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district about some people cheating medical students and obtaining money from them under the pretext of providing them fake degrees even if they failed the course. 

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation after registering a case in this regard. During the investigation, the police traced a few men who were talking with college students at the Potheri railway station and caught them red-handed. 

After escorting the men to the police station, the police proceeded to question them, ultimately uncovering information regarding the alleged fake medical degree scam.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed the location of their residence, which resulted in a subsequent search that revealed a sufficient amount of cash and a few electronic devices. Later, the police seized the items. 

Speaking to the daily, a police officer said “We found they were staying in a rented apartment at Kattankulathur and conducted a search. We found Rs 13 lakh cash, five mobile phones and a laptop."

“We received information about payments received from different students. The trio had received Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh, depending on the subjects the students failed,” said the police. 

Subsequently, the three accused men were remanded in judicial custody and the case is under investigation.
