Ranchi: In a bid to provide better healthcare facilities to the people, Chief Minister Hemant Soren handed over appointment letters to 217 AYUSH doctors marking the event as the first time in the history of Jharkhand to recruit doctors in a bulk.

Soren said the state government is continuously moving in the direction of providing better healthcare facilities to the people.

Addressing an event organized by the health department after handing over appointment letters on a contract basis to the doctors in the AYUSH sector, Soren said his government is committed to ensuring studies in Unani, Ayurvedic and Homeopathy.

He said appointment letters have been handed over to 217 doctors so that people living in rural areas get the benefits of AYUSH treatment. He said the Ayurvedic Unani and Homeopathy modes of treatment were in practice ages before the modern means of treatment came into existence.

The recruited AYUSH doctors will be posted at the Panchakarma centres as well as in primary healthcare centres (PHC), community health centres (CHC) and health and wellness centres.

Soren announced an incentive of up to Rs 15,000 per month for AYUSH practitioners to motivate them to improve their performance.

"The government has decided to give incentives up to Rs 15,000 per month in addition to salary. If you do better work throughout the year, then I will arrange to give you better incentives," the chief minister told PTI.

Soren said that for the development of the AYUSH sector, his government will soon start a course where Unani, Ayurvedic, and Homeopathic systems will be taught.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Jharkhand government and Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospitals in Rajkot and Ahmedabad. Under the agreement, the people of Jharkhand will be able to get free cardiac treatment at the facilities and the government will spend 10 thousand rupees per patient on the travel of these patients.

State Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajiv Arun Ekka, Secretary to Chief Minister Vinay Kumar Choubey, Nodal Officer of AYUSH Bhuvnesh Pratap Singh, Shri Sathya Sai and director in-chief health services, Jharkhand, Dr Krishna Kumar, managing trustee of Prashanti Medical Services and Research Foundation, Manoj Bhimani and other representatives of the heart hospital were present.

Speaking about the MoU, Bhimani told TOI "We will be providing surgeries to 1,000 patients from Jharkhand every year and the state government will provide them transportation to hospitals in Gujarat."

Additional chief secretary (health), Arun Kumar Singh, said "Among 1,000 patients which will be provided quality medical care by Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospital in Gujarat, 500 will be children with congenital heart diseases and 500 will be adults with a need of heart surgeries."

Ensuring that AYUSH treatment would provide relief to a large number of the rural population in the state and that its believers are distributed all around the country, Soren said "We will not only stop at just recruitment of doctors but we are planning to open colleges which will teach courses on Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy so that we can bring more and more youngsters in this stream."

Health Minister Banna Gupta said "Many among you will be attending to patients from far-flung areas who do not get to reach the mainstream hospitals and have a strong belief in natural treatment methods adopted by AYUSH practitioners. I would like to request you on this occasion that along with providing treatment to patients, behave with them with empathy as it works like magic for a patient who comes to you with high hope."

While describing the importance of Ayush treatment in our life, three healthcare apps were launched by Soren at the event in this regard. Under this, Ayush Yoga App, Ayush Patient Monitoring App and Jeevan Doot App are included.
