Pimpri-Chinchwad: In a shocking incident, a 29-year-old Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the terrace of an under-construction 24-storey building in the Ravet area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday morning, police said.

According to reports, the deceased was a native of Maharashtra's Latur district. She had been residing in a rented apartment in Ravet, which was attached to a hospital where she had previously worked. Police said she was not practising medicine at the time of her death.

She had earlier worked as a doctor but had recently resigned from her job, and the reasons behind her resignation are yet to be ascertained.

Speaking to Free Press Journal, Senior Police Inspector Hrishikesh Ghadge, who is in charge of the Ravet Police Station, said, “The doctor was found dead. We received a call, and our personnel rushed to the site. She jumped off the terrace of an under-construction building. The woman had blindfolded herself with a piece of cloth before leaping from the building. Her umbrella was found on the terrace.”

According to a PTI report, as there were no CCTV cameras at the building, police examined footage from nearby locations and traced the woman to her rented accommodation, and a search of her flat led to the recovery of a suicide note, an official informed. “The note states that she alone is responsible for her death. It does not level any allegation against any individual or institution. The note does not mention her workplace, the hospital where she was employed,” he added.

Inspector Ghadge said that, based on the available evidence, an ADR has been registered.

An autopsy was conducted, and the body was later handed over to her family, who took her to their native place in Latur district to perform the last rites.

Investigators said neither the deceased's family nor her friends have expressed any suspicion regarding the circumstances of her death. However, police added that further inquiries will continue after interacting with the family following the funeral.
