Doctors Booked

Varanasi: Four doctors and an ASHA worker in Varanasi were booked by Chetganj police for recommending several surgeries on a woman patient, allegedly leading to her death.

TOI reported that the police lodged an FIR against Dr Swarnlata Singh of Chetganj, Dr Javed Iqbal of Ramakant Nagar, Dr Vidya Shankar Pandey of District Jail Road, Dr. GD Gupta of Padaav, and ASHA worker Annu Devi of Hanuman Ghat after the Chief Judicial Magistrate issued an order in this regard.

Initially suffering from menstrual-related issues, the patient underwent multiple surgeries costing more than Rs 14 lakh. However, her condition continued worsening leading to her death.

Allegedly, when the complainant tried to lodge a complaint with the police, the officials did not cooperate. Following this, he sought the court's intervention, and ultimately, the doctors and the ASHA worker were booked.

Confirming this, the Inspector of Chetganj police, Dileep Kumar Shukla informed the Daily that the FIR was lodged against the accused doctors and ASHA worker in compliance with the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the complainant's wife was suffering from menstrual-related issue and the ASHA worker took the patient to Dr Singh for treatment. Consequently, the doctor conducted uterus surgery costing around Rs 70,000. However, after being discharged, the patient started experiencing nausea and indigestion. When the complainant contacted Dr. Singh again, the doctor treated the patient for a day and thereafter referred her to Dr. Iqbal, said the Complainant.

He further informed that Dr. Iqbal performed another surgery on the patient, costing around Rs 4 lakh. However, since the patient's condition further worsened, the doctor referred her to Dr. Pandy, who performed another surgery, costing Rs 5 lakhs. Despite this, the patient's condition did not improve.

Since the patient's condition continued to deteriorate, Dr. Pandey referred her to Dr. Gupta, where around Rs 50,000 was spent. However, despite all the efforts, the patient died, said the Complainant. He further alleged that when he tried to lodge a complaint with the police, the cops did not cooperate.
