48-year-old Paediatrician dies in road accident

Patna: A tragic road accident in the city claimed the life of a 48-year-old well-known paediatrician of Begusarai after his car got hit by an uncontrolled vehicle leading to a head-on collision with another high-speed vehicle near Chanda village on the Mokama-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway.

The deceased, identified as Dr Balmukund Jha, suffered severe injuries as he was sitting at the back of the car. His location in the rear meant that he could not take advantage of the airbags that deployed during the accident, which ultimately saved the life of the driver, who sustained only minor injuries.

TOI has reported that the accident occurred around noon on Sunday when Dr Jha was travelling back to Begusarai from Patna. He ran a health centre of his late wife in the Begusarai district. While his driver was driving the car, an uncontrolled vehicle struck his car from the side, leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. This resulted in a heavy impact as his car was found destroyed from the front. 

After this, the locals informed the police about the accident. When the police arrived at the spot, they immediately rushed Dr Jha to Barh sub-divisional hospital, where he was declared dead. Later, the police sent his body for a postmortem. Occupants of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.

The police registered a case and launched an investigation in this regard.  

Speaking to TOI, a police officer said, "Two vehicles collided, of which one was coming from the wrong side. The third vehicle, which collided with the doctor's car, was also moving at high speed. The doctor died, while others sustained minor injuries."
