52-year-old senior doctor hangs self, suicide note says was fed up with life

Raipur: In an unfortunate incident, a senior doctor posted in a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Surajpur district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence on Tuesday evening. 

According to the police, the deceased was suffering from depression after losing his first wife shortly after their marriage, his second wife to COVID-19, and one of his sons who tragically took his own life after struggling to pass the NEET exam.

He left behind a suicide note which mentioned "I am fed up with life and do not wish to live anymore."

The incident occurred on Jan 27 after the deceased, a 52-year-old senior doctor posted at the community health centre (CHC) in Pratappur returned home from his duties. After reaching his house at around 7 pm, he went to his room and locked himself. 

When it was dinner time at night, his son and daughter-in-law attempted to contact him but received no response. Worried, the couple broke the door open and was shocked to witness the doctor hanging from the ceiling fan, TOI reports.

Afterwards, the couple reached out to the police and informed them about the situation, leading to them arriving at the doctor's residence. 

During the preliminary investigation, the police discovered that the doctor left a suicide note and learned from his neighbours that he was suffering from depression.  

According to the neighbour's statement, the doctor experienced the unfortunate loss of three loved ones in tragic events, which is believed to have led him to end his own life.   

Meanwhile, his body was sent for post-mortem and a complaint was filed at the police station. "An investigation is still underway," said a police officer.
