AIIMS Bhopal Dr Avinash Thakare honoured with Best Oral Presentation award at BMSeCON-2023
Bhopal: In a notable achievement, Dr Avinash Thakare, a distinguished Additional Professor of Physiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, has recently been honoured with the Best Oral Presentation award under the Faculty category during the 4th International Basic Medical Sciences e-conference (BMSeCON-2023).
The conference, which convened at AVMC Medical College in Puducherry, drew participation from prominent medical scientists worldwide, showcasing the global significance of the event.
BMSeCON-4th International e-Conference is a dedicated platform for exploring developments in basic medical sciences, focusing on the latest advancements in diagnosis, research, and teaching-learning methodologies within the field. Hosted by the Phase-I MBBS Departments, including Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, along with the Centre for Biomedical Research at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital, a constituent college of Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (VMRF), this annual conference has been a trendsetter since 2020.
Dr Thakare's groundbreaking research, titled "Exploring Neural Respiratory Drive through Surface EMG Parameters of Parasternal Muscles in Various Body Positions among Healthy Young Adults," has garnered acclaim in the medical community. This pioneering study involved a dedicated research team from the Department of Physiology at AIIMS Bhopal, comprising Dr Santosh Wakode, Dr Rajay Bharshankar, Dr Sandip Hulke, Dr Varun Malhotra, and Dr Rekha Jiwane, reports BNN news.
The research revolutionizes the estimation of the neural respiratory drive (NRD) by utilizing second intercostal space parasternal surface electromyography (sEMG). This innovative approach holds practical implications for respiratory diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, and Interstitial Lung Diseases. It emerges as a pivotal indicator for assessing respiratory load and muscle pump function, potentially transforming the treatment landscape for such conditions. Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, commended Dr. Thakare's exemplary work and the team's noteworthy contribution to medical science. He urged the team to persist in their trailblazing research, establishing a benchmark for the global scientific community.
