AIIMS Rishikesh Invites Applications For PhD Program July 2023 Session, check out schedule, eligibility criteria, selection process, seats, fee details
Rishikesh: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Rishikesh) has invited online applications for PhD Program July 2023 session.
Detailed schedule -
1. Last date for online application on AIIMS Rishikesh website – 26.6.2023 (up to 05:00 PM)
2. Last date for receipt of hard copy of application form at AIIMS Rishikesh - 26.6.2023 (up to 05:00 PM)
3. Status of application & rejected application with the reason for rejection. Applicants are required to check the status on the AIIMS Rishikesh website – 5.7.2023
4. Last date to submit required documents for regularizing a rejected application. No Correspondence will be entertained after this date under any circumstances, and candidates are requested not to contact the Examination Section – 7.7.2023
5. . Issue of Admit cards to eligible candidates – 10.7.2023
6. Written Test at AIIMS Rishikesh- Stage 1 – 13.7.2023
7. Stage II Assessment – 25.7.2023
8. Last date for joining the PhD Program – 31.8.2023
For applying for admission to PhD Courses, each candidate is required to fill out the online Google form available on the website (www.aiimsrishikesh.edu.in) i.e. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScCmMVOPLQekC-oWWUsih3U-Ey1vXBcQQ88B-CcK2q-cjHFyQ/viewform
The candidates are also required to submit the hard copy of the duly typed and signed application form provided as an MS Word document file on the website to the Dean (Exam), AIIMS, Rishikesh, Veerbhadra Marg, Rishikesh 249203 through registered post/ speed post. The envelope should be superscribed as "APPLICATION FORM FOR PHD ADMISSION JULY 2023."
The candidates need to fill out both online and offline application forms carefully. Any Amendment/Rectification/Change/Editing is not allowed in Name, Date of Birth, Department, etc., after payment of the application fee through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking and images, once uploaded, cannot be changed later. They should retain a copy of both online and offline application forms till the completion of the admission process.
Application Fee (Mode of payment: Through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking) –
1. All Applicants - Rs. 2000/- +Transaction Charges as applicable
2. SC/ST/EWS - Rs. 1600 /- +Transaction Charges as applicable
3. PWBD candidates – Exempted
Documents to be attached with the registration form –
1. Proof of date of birth
2. ID Card
3. Essential qualification certificate/s
4. Recent photograph
5. Signature
6. Left thumb impression
7. Sponsored Candidates: Sponsorship Certificate (in the case of the sponsored candidate) in the format prescribed in the Prospectus, duly completed and signed by the competent authority.
8. Proof of award of eligible fellowship for non-medical candidates for getting the benefit of special weightage.
9. Proof of category for availing benefits of fees and relaxation in qualifying marks.
Eligibility criteria –
For Medical Sciences -
1. MBBS /BDS degree or equivalent with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or Equivalent percentile in Professional examinations
2. MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh in Subject concerned or Diplomate of National Board of Examinations or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/DCI.
3. Master's degree after BAMS, BHMS, and BNYS for candidates from the AYUSH discipline.
For Nursing: Candidates holding MSc degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in the Nursing specialty.
For Non–Medical: Master's degree (02-year course) awarded by Indian University or equivalent in the subject as per the requirement of the project. Candidates holding MSc (Other than MSc Nursing), M Biotech/ M Tech degree / M Com / MBA/ MPH will be eligible for the non-medical qualification category as per AIIMS Rishikesh. Candidates having eligibility under the non-medical category should have at least 55% marks or equivalent in the last eligibility examination qualified.
Candidates possessing a Master's Degree through distance learning courses are not eligible.
Relaxation in Qualification for all Candidates - A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% or an equivalent relaxation of percentile/grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and Female Candidates.
Eligibility for Own Government fellowship (OF) seats – To be eligible for OF seats, candidates must fulfill the following criteria -
1. Candidates who have qualified for the National Entrance Tests in any one of the following national entrance tests in the last 2 years (1 June 2021 to the Last date of application) leading to the award of a fellowship viz. SRF/JRF from any Government organization viz. CSIR, DBT, DST, UGC etc., tenable at AIIMS Rishikesh.
Eligibility Criteria for External Candidates in permanent employment -
2. Implies In-service or sponsored candidates who will receive their salary/stipend from the sponsoring/parent organization, subject to submission of sponsorship certificate from the sponsoring agency.
3. Candidates who are permanent employees of external Institutions (Central Govt/ Semi Govt/ Autonomous organizations) should submit applications through the proper channel. i.e. employer. They must submit a 'No Objection Certificate" from their employer during the Stage II examination.
4. In addition, such Candidates will have to provide a certificate at the time of joining from the employer stating that in the event of selection to PhD course, the candidate will be granted a minimum period of 03-year study leave with full pay and permission to work at AIIMS Rishikesh to pursue full-time PhD Course.
Eligibility criteria for In-service- Candidates from AIIMS Rishikesh -
1. Applicants from AIIMS Rishikesh – Only those faculty/scientists/administrative officers/officials whose tenure is of 3 years or more (subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria) will be allowed to apply as internal candidates. They must submit a 'No Objection Certificate" from their employer during the Stage II examination. DM, MCh, PDCC candidates, and others pursuing full-time academic courses at AIIMS Rishikesh cannot simultaneously apply for a PhD programme.
2. If a faculty is registered as a guide of a PhD scholar, they will not be eligible to apply for a PhD Course as a PhD scholar until the submission of thesis work by a research scholar under them.
3. any faculty pursuing PhD Course themself is NOT allowed to guide a student.
Eligibility criteria for Transfer for PhD credit in case of relocation -
1. In case of relocation of PhD scholar due to marriage or otherwise, the research period and research data shall be allowed to be transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh, subject to the condition that Research Scholar has either joined as the employee/ on deputation and has cleared entrance exam (Stage I and Stage II) conducted by AIIMS, Rishikesh and is willing to enroll as a full-time PhD Research Scholar. Scholars will give due credit to the parent guide and previous Institutions for part of the research already done.
Candidates who are likely to complete the requisite qualification and degree by the last date of application may also apply. All such candidates must submit a certificate on the letterhead of the College/University, signed and stamped by the Registrar/Dean/Principal, confirming that the candidate is likely to complete the eligibility qualification by the last date of application. Candidates completing their requisite qualification after the later date of application are NOT eligible to take this examination.
Duration of Course -
2. Course duration for all candidates will commence from the date of joining (provisional registration) to submitting the final thesis to the exam cell for evaluation.
3. PhD course will be full-time for all external candidates, including those with sponsorship.
4. Duration of three years of courses will include previous research experience for transferred Scholars and faculty.
5. Minimum Duration: This shall be for a minimum period of three years, including coursework.
6. Maximum Duration: This shall be for a period of 6 years.

A total of 10 institutional fellowships are available, which include 2 fellowships of Rs. 15000/- per month + HRA for candidates with basic eligibility criteria of Nursing as specified in the next section and 8 fellowships of Rs. 25000 per month+ HRA for candidates having eligibility criteria of Medical as specified in next section. The decision regarding the award of institutional fellowship will be decided by IRRB as per merit in the entrance exam and will be considered final.

Method of selection –
Entrance to PhD Course will be based on merit scores based on the following evaluations. All Internal and External candidates (Medical, non-medical, in-house, in-service, transfer-in etc.) will have to appear in two stages of the entrance exam -
1. Stage 1: Written Entrance Exam
2. Stage 2: Departmental assessment and interaction with IRRB
Method of Resolving Tie - The tie cases will be resolved according to age (Date of birth); the older candidate shall get preference over the younger one.
Declaration of Results –
The results of PhD Program will be available on the AIIMS Rishikesh website. The results of individual candidates will not be informed on the telephone, and candidates are advised to check the website from time to time for their results.
Details issued –
1. All Seats in a department will be clubbed
2. Candidates may apply for PhD in one subject and project only.
3. Candidates will only be eligible for seats in the department and project they have applied for.
4. Candidates will be allocated seats based on their merit in the exam.
5. Successful candidates will be screened for eligibility criteria of the respective Project before admission.
6. Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.
7. PhD Scholars are required to make their own arrangements for stay at their own expense during the period of their PhD Course.
8. They are also required to identify a source of funding support for their research work, as Institute is not bound to support PhD Scholar (External) for their stay/salary/ research funding support.
9. The decision of the Institutional Research Review Board (IRRB) will be considered final in all matters pertaining to the PhD course.
10. Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.
Indemnity Bond –
All Candidates enrolled for PhD Course shall sign a bond to complete the course. Leaving the course mid-way will involve recovery of salary/fellowship and a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh based on the decision of IRRB. However, the candidate can request Director AIIMS Rishikesh to review the IRRB decision.
Allocation of Guide –
1. Candidate shall work under the supervision of a recognized PhD guide of AIIMS Rishikesh based on the option chosen by the candidate at the time of application.
2. Candidates for PhD Courses shall have the option to choose their research guide from AIIMS Rishikesh.
3. IRRB will do allocation of the guide from the department in which the candidate has applied for PhD Co-guides will be selected by the guide and scholar based on the subject expertise required for PhD thesis.
4. Only a full-time regular teacher/Director of AIIMS Rishikesh can be a supervisor.
5. External Guides are not allowed. However, Co-Guide can be allowed in inter-disciplinary areas from other departments of AIIMS Rishikesh or other related Institutions with the approval of DRC.
Registration Process - The date of joining shall be treated as the registration date.
Joining - Selected candidates are required to join as per the date provided in the notification of results. The PhD seats shall lapse if the selected candidates do not join by 31.08.2023 for the July session. No candidate shall be allowed to join after 31.08.2023 for July session.
