Bengaluru doctor threatens to crash Air India Flight, Deboarded

Bengaluru: A 36-year-old Ayurvedic doctor was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly creating chaos aboard an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat, prompting a major security scare that delayed the flight by nearly two hours. 

The incident took place on Air India Flight IX2749, which was scheduled to depart from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the afternoon. According to airport authorities, the Ayurvedic doctor, a resident of Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, bypassed the airline check-in counter and insisted on carrying two pieces of baggage directly onto the aircraft — in violation of standard baggage regulations. 

After boarding the plane, she stored her luggage in the first row but tried to sit elsewhere, which prompted a confrontation with the cabin crew. When approached about the issue, she reportedly responded with hostility and became argumentative.

The situation escalated when she allegedly threatened to “crash the flight,” creating panic among passengers on board. The captain was alerted immediately, and security personnel intervened. Although boarding had started around 2:45 PM, the flight was delayed by almost two hours as security measures were implemented. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was called to handle the situation, and the doctor was removed from the aircraft. Agnimitra Bahinipati, associate manager of security at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), subsequently filed a complaint against her.

According to the Hindu, based on the airline staff’s complaint, the police have charged the doctor under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, and Sections 351 (criminal intimidation) and 353 (conduct to public mischief) of BNS.

Speaking to TOI, police said Mohanbhai did not stop there. Once taken to the KIA police station, she continued to abuse and manhandle police officers, creating further disturbance. “This was the first time we heard such abusive language in the station,” a senior officer claimed.

Her husband, who works with an educational institution in Bengaluru and is originally from Odisha, was called to the station. He informed police that the doctor had stopped practising medicine and was travelling to Gujarat to visit family. He also disclosed that she had exhibited similar disruptive behavior in public in the past.

Police are now investigating her background and examining any prior records of misconduct.
