Bhopal MD Homoeopathy medico allegedly shoots woman batchmate, cousin; attempts suicide

Bhopal: A homoeopathy MD student allegedly opened fire on a woman batchmate and her cousin at her residence in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on Tuesday night before reportedly attempting suicide by hanging himself at his home, police said. 

The incident took place around 11 pm at the Patanjali Parisar under the Gandhinagar police station limits. According to police, the accused had watched the crime thriller Drishyam with friends just hours before the alleged shooting. Police are now piecing together his movements and the events that led to the incident.  

The accused reportedly returned home after the movie and spoke to his mother over a video call and also arranged for a toy car to be sent to his young niece in Rajgarh. His family told police that the conversation appeared completely normal, with nothing to suggest that a violent confrontation was about to follow.

Later that night, he allegedly went to the postgraduate doctor’s flat in Patanjali Parisar. Police said the two had reportedly argued over the phone before his arrival and that their relationship had been under strain for some time.  

The disagreements had reportedly become increasingly bitter. On the night of the incident, the argument allegedly continued after the accused reached her flat, where he is suspected of opening fire.  

When her cousin brother rushed in to save her, a second shot allegedly tore across his stomach and chest, leaving the woman and her cousin injured. Both victims were rushed to hospital and later discharged. Soon after, the accused attempted to end his own life by hanging from the ceiling at his residence in the multi-storied building. A neighbour spotted him and rescued him, reports TNIE. 

Police are now examining whether the alleged suicide attempt followed the shooting and the events immediately thereafter. Call records, messages and the movements of both individuals are being examined to establish the sequence of events.

The accused, originally from Rajgarh, had been living in Bhopal for around seven years. He had completed his BHMS and was pursuing postgraduate studies when he met the woman. Their relationship reportedly continued for several years before the woman decided to move on.

Investigators are now looking into the couple’s recent conversations and disputes, as well as the accused’s activities on the day of the incident. Police said the precise motive and sequence leading to the shooting will become clear as the investigation progresses.
