Chennai: In a tragic incident, a government doctor suffered a seizure while driving, causing him to crash into a two-wheeler near Avadi on Thursday morning, which resulted in the death of a couple on the spot.

The accident occurred around 10:10 am on the Avadi–Poonamallee Road, when the doctor, allegedly losing consciousness while driving, crashed into the couple’s bike from behind, struck the centre median, and overturned. The couple died on the spot.

The deceased couple, both employed in different private firms, were on their way to work when the unfortunate accident occurred. They are survived by their twin sons.

According to police reports, the doctor behind the wheel of the car, a physician at a primary health centre in Soranchery, claimed that he suffered a seizure while driving, which caused him to lose consciousness and veer into the couple's path.

It then hit the centre median and fell sideways. Due to the impact, Ariuvarasan hit a load van nearby, and Saranya was crushed beneath the car.”

The police reported that the bodies were recovered and sent to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead. The doctor was admitted to a government hospital in Avadi and later referred to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
