CMC Ludhiana's Dr Dinesh K Badyal bags Medical Education Excellence Award
Hyderabad: Dr Dinesh K Badyal, Professor and Head of Pharmacology and Vice Principal (Medical Education) at Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana, has been honoured with the “Best Medical Education Excellence” award.
He received the honour at the national finale of the Indian Medical Awards held at Hyderabad. With over 28 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, Dr Badyal exemplifies excellence in shaping modern medical education.
The organizers of Indian Medical Awards described him with the following words, “His pioneering work in competency‑based curricula, training thousands of faculty members, and raising academic standards has deeply influenced medical training across India. As a teacher, researcher, and visionary leader, he continues to inspire future healthcare professionals and strengthen the foundation of high‑quality medical education. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Badyal’s story powerfully illustrates how dedicated educational leadership can transform healthcare systems.”
He has also been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). He received this honour at the 65th Convocation of NAMS held at PGI Chandigarh, an acknowledgement of his academic excellence and professional achievements.
He has contributed significantly to the new competency-based MBBS Pharmacology curriculum as Chairman of the NMC expert group and & MD Pharmacology curriculum as Convener of the expert group. He is extensively involved in training faculty of medical colleges all over India for the new curriculum and capacity development as Program director of CMCL-FAIMER Regional Institute and Convener, National Medical Commission (NMC) Nodal centre for faculty development, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana.
Dr. Badyal is Editor-in-Chief of the National Journal of Pharmacology & Therapeutics. He has published more than 190 papers, authored 4 books, and contributed chapters in many books. He has been earlier awarded a visiting fellowship by the Rector's Clinical Skills & Simulation Centre, Jefferson Univ., Philadelphia; “Scholarship” by German Academic Exchange Service; Dr APJ Kalam Memorial oration by KGMU Lucknow, “Prof. G. Achari Oration” for eminent pharmacologists by Indian Pharmacological Society, and Shri Ganni Satyanarayana Memorial Oration by APMEDCON.
While receiving the award, Dr Dinesh stated, “Thank you so much actually for these recognitions and honours which you have bestowed upon us, and if you look at the stakeholders, including faculty, educators, and medical colleges, we have been working for more than two decades to improving the curriculum so that all the doctors who are entering this field they get more and more better training. So, we have big networking in India and other countries. So we have worked all on that so that we produce more competent doctors who actually help the community and humanity.”
